Right, In the interests of finding a competitive themed force for my newly founded Night Goblin Army I have encountered a LOT of humiliating defeats, at the club I go to I can get in about 3-4 Games in an evening and have had a few opponents volunteering to be my guinea pigs (who later turned out to be Hell Pits!!)

So scrapping the idea of Night Goblins with Short Bows as these troops inflicted FAR too much damage on my own units for my liking, as funny as it was it ultimately lost me points, games and standing

Right then

Tactic Wise

Warboss and BSB take the central unit with another Big Boss, which means oh no.... my BSB cannot fit in the front rank, what a pity second rank it is then, (sneaky rat thing trick, Da Boss like is flag!)

One Shaman and Big Boss go into each of the remaining units with the shaman as far away from my General as possible (dat green light makez me eyez water! And he smells funny!)

The Manglers depending on who I am facing either both go on one flank or I have one on each, depends on the game and the mission.

Spear Chukka's and Doom Divers target anything that'll give me a hard time..........so everything really.

Fanatics I like to fan out protecting ALL of my units from chargers and forcing enemy units to charge through them inflicting another D6 worth of hits (2D6 S5 Hits)... yeah that's it for tactics

Thank you to all who have helped me get to this stage... I really appreciate your input and hope to get more

For a competitive NG list I'd just make a few changes:
Lv.4 NG shaman needs to be added to the list.
Warboss would be awesome with the stubborn crown/armor of destiny. Yeah, this makes him less killy, but he'll live longer to keep your unit stubborn.
I'd also swap the spear chukkas for something else. A rock lobba would be good, if you have the points. You could even drop it for some spider/wolf riders. Use the riders to redirect chargers/block charge lanes/put some early pressure on war machines.

Only one more thing; you are hiding the fanatics in your units?

Yes I am hiding them (fanatics), when they're released I fan them out.

Awesome.
Sorry, sounded like you might have started them on the board like the manglers from your post.

Its all good, I had another 3 games today and managed to pull off 2 wins and a draw which is a vast improvement.

I'm liking the Manglers (REALLY LIKE EM) and the spear chukkas seem to do very well as a deterrent to stop things attacking my Doom Divers.

The fanatics (3) managed to wipe out a charging unit of 5 Tomb King chariots with Tomb King Chariot leaving the Tomb King on 2 wounds and on foot, was a very very good result.

In another game the mangler (FLUFFY) completely rolled up a flank on its own which was hilarious to watch.

Really loving the Gobbo's at the moment, the highs are much highers then Brets and the lows are much more frequent lol

I typically suggest a pair of Level 2's, unless going with a Common Goblin Great Shaman. A Level 4 is too risky when it has against it not only Animosity, but a 16% chance of auto-fail / 10% chance of wounding himself with every casting (before taking into account Miscast odds).

Bolt Throwers, IMO, are better than Rock Lobbas. They are literally vanilla war machines, without any of the advantages that make other Catapults (such as ASL effect, or no-saves, or insta-Panic, or are S4 / S5 base, or Killing Blow) so deadly. Spear Chukkas are less effective against Skirmishers, yes, but it's a great deal easier to make up a Spear Chukka's points against Saurus / Chaos Warriors / Dwarves / etcetera than it is a Stone Thrower (heck, it still takes about three direct hits rolling average to make up your points against completely un-buffed Clanrats / Swordsmen).

And yeah, Fanatics will mulch Chariots, Cavalry and - if well placed / released - non-T7 Monsters. The wider a unit is, the more likely it'll be taking 2D6 per fanatic in the unit (bonus points when Goblins are next to eachother, so sometimes you can hit a Deathstar with 12D6 S5 hits to pretty much go "No, you lose, good day sir").

To each their own, but I like the extra dice, and animosity is something that just has to be lived with. A back up lv.2 in a different unit is always a good call to ensure you have some kind of a magic phase. The +4 to dispel is reason enough for me to run a lv. 4, as NGs do not want to be hit with Dwellers.

Goblin bolt throwers are the suck, but I'm glad you're getting some good use out of them.
The bolt throwers only hit half the time, and misfire 1/6th of the time.
Yeah, you could skewer some suraus/chaos warriors, and make the points back in one shot, but NG lists have tons of bodies with netters to soak CC losses. What NGs need is a way to deal with other massive sized units, ensuring Stubborn for the NGs.
Plus you already have fanatics/manglers/squig herds/trolls/giants/hoppers/ and magic to chew through armor, and most monsters. I can’t think of any monster type unit that wants to take a mangler squig to the face.
Some of the above are not the most competitive choices, but better than the chukka.
The lobbas are for taking out swaths of chaff at longer range, which is what a NG list needs.
With the average unit size being in the 30's, a well placed shot can get tons of hits on a given unit. Even with a scatter, the lobba can still hit something, with the chukka; a 3 or less on the die, and you wasted the shot, 4 or less for long range during the first turn or 2. Those early turns are when you need to do the long range damage, and chukkas don't cut it.
