The Chicago Bunker is having an event on March 3rd. It is themed as VC & Skaven vs. Empire, Wood Elves, and Brets. It is three rounds progressing from 1k up to 2k in 500 point increments. I'm going to field my new VC list, and my goal is to frustrate the other team. I'm going for a heavily ethereal army. Based on the models I currently have, I'm thinking the following:

40 zombies
44 zombies
5 hexwraiths
5 hexwraiths
4 cairn wraiths

Its a low model count army, and it lacks banners, but I don't think I will need them for scenarios or anything. I know that tree spirits will give me all sorts of trouble and that the zombies must be supported to survive long against heavier units like greatswords, flagellants, or bret knights. That all being said, I have the following questions:

1) What characters should I include on a 248 point budget for this list?
2) Would it be prudent to drop one unit of hexwraiths for 3 spirit hosts? At this low point level I may face several units with static res of 1 or less.
3) I know very little about brets and wood elves. Other than tree spirits and wizards, is there anything obvious that will ruin my day as far as the ethereal goes?
4) Is there anything else obvious that I have foolishly overlooked?

Thanks in advance,

-Jim

I would try to pack in as many necromancers as you can to prevent crumble.

I think there was a rule that Grail knight's weapons were considered magical but I can't remember.

Either way, with empire and brets (not WE's so much), the hexwraiths will do wonders. A str 5 hit with no armour save will make bret's on horses sad, and being able to run up as fast as possible to an empire cannon or mortar or whatever then jump over it providing hits the next round will help alot. Only engage with the hex wraiths if you know you'll win...if you won't, jump.

Avoid the WE's if they use spirits as you know.

Definitely add at least one necromancer. Rod of Flaming Death would be a big help with Dryads. For less than 248 points you could have two lvl 2 Necromancers, one with the Rod. If you don't like the Rod, you can never go wrong with a Dispel Scroll.
