hi!
well i was speaking with a friend of mine on DeviantArt.com about how he did the base for his raptors, He is from Serbia and well a detailed step by step doesn't seem to be in the cards as far as explanations may be concerned never-mind the fact i can sometimes wait some time before getting replies on the matter so i was hoping i could get instruction on how to achieve the same effect on my own yet to be purchased raptors.

"In the middle (just bellow the figure fire base) is some cork pieces... Randomly hand pieced to look like continuation of fire effect on the figure itself...The rest of the base is common sand painted the same way..."

i have not used cork or sand before and honestly have a hard time seeing how that could turn into that flame effect. [im a total noob ]
soo is this a simple effect to achieve? is there something/someone online or on dakka that can help me with this?

hope i posted this in the right section.

yeah painting flames is relatively easy...however...you will have to model th flames reaching up to the unit and that could be a pain unless you are dedicated and want that look.

how i would do it is with green stuff, model it a little, attach a semi modeled glob to the base n stem and then sculpt it nice n easy under my magnifying glass to start with just my fingers then like a toothpick or something n an exacto knife for super fine detail or whatever works for you sculpting wise on such small scale. you could use the cork idea and cut away pieces to make it flamy but i think it will be difficult to paint. that would be the flames rising up, for the base pva and flour n a little water, play with the consitencys till you get a cool clumpy sort of pasty goo thingy n apply to the base of your flames on top of a sand coted base plate...oh shoot i think i missed a step lol - sand coat your base plate, attache flamey green stuff, put on goop glue, wait to dry. then comes the painting....

lets say you get the sculpting down n are happy with it, i like to use blood red, blazing orange, sunburst yellow and burnished gold for a few little highlights (it gives it that shiny flashy movey sort of feel and look to it like the thing is burning in realtime...at least i think it does) red all over first then smaller amounts of orange highlights in the middle towards eadge and then tips with yellow and a few little highlights so that you get a nice red orange yellow mix but you can see each color more red less orange n even less yellow except for the tips where it's at it peak of flame. Then fine detail the burnished gold and lightly stencil in a few gold highlights over the orange n red as well in little strategic amounts, then very very tips of your flame in gold also and it will mix in all your colors well you will still see them all but they will come to life. the base is easy just cover in orange n wash with red then hightlight (drybrush or otherwise) in yellow or burnished gold whatever floates your boat. now the goopy stuff will give a lava like look (i like the idea you may not so you don't have to goop it) i would use red gore n blood red and orange it will come out a little shiny n lava flowey its' cool, you dont'o need yellow highlights here but go for it if you like it, i'm a metalic gold fan...in case you havn't noticed lol so i might highlight with a little of that.

i hope that helped...tho i'm thinking you really wanna know more detail on the actual sculpting n not the painting lol but i'm not big on mods like these, they take too much of my time lol n i get involved into them like crazy n whole days will pass by me if i do it lol.

anyway cheerz, if you have any more questions blast away, i hope i helped a bit
