Hi dakka. Just wondering what you guys/girls think of Varguard obyron. I was thinking of using him in a squad of 5 lychguard, with 2 lords and Trazyn the infinite in there as well (just in case I run into hordes). And yes the Nemesor is in the army as well.

I like the idea of Trazyn with Lychguard as he makes them scoring and gives them anti horde as you say. Obyron gives them the movement options they need but its a pretty expensive combo that will have to survive A LOT of shooting before it gets to hack things up.. those shields & reslord should come in handy!

You can only put 1 Lord into each squad. I think he's better with a 5 man Royal Court of mainly standard Lords, 15 S5 AP3 shots in your face straight after they used VoD? Plus use Crypteks etc to increase survival and use Defensive Grenades etc.

Are you sure you can only put one in squad even though they are from different royal courts.

This sounds incredibly bloated and bad. Necrons are a predominately shooty army. Wraiths are the best unit for CC and counter attack.

You can put 2 if they are from different Royal Courts.

Yes necrons may be a big shooty army, but I want to have some combat units in the army as well. And right now all my large bases are being proxyd as scarabs, so it's a bit hard to use wraiths. Plus I have lychguard models so I'm not just going to shelve them without even testing them first. And I'm playing a game today so I'll get back to you how well they. I'm also not a competitive player and neither are my friends, so this is just a unit which I hope will kill things and be fun to play.

Lychguard can suprise you, other times they will do nothing and die. Res orb is a must, putting obyron in the squad? with my orks i would just put all my wounds onto the lychguard instead.

My tactic with obyron is to teleport accross the field in a squad like spyders* and then seperate and run into an enemy squad without powerfists/multiple power weapons.

*I have never done that in a serious game, i think it is legal though.

With the ork boys analogy, that's why I have Trazyn in the unit to lessen the blow to the lychguard and not worry about hordes as much.

Necrons have some great melee units that are good for counter assaults plus they have lots of dirty tricks. Combined together they are very powerful. Don't load up on too much shiny bits though.
