But ive started a marines army and Im alittle unsure about my captain, what the weapon choices are for him. I see he can take quite afew variations. Im just wondering a noob question, can the captain take two guns or must it be one gun and one close combat weapon like a power fist?

There's nothing to stop you doing it, as it says he can "replace bolt pistol and/or chainsword with" any of the subsequently listed upgrades. Remember, though, that if you take two guns you can only fire one per turn. It could, however, make for an interesting modelling project.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

You can take two guns but it is generally not worth the points to do so.

Although now I do want to see a captain charging forward one-handing two storm bolters and the auxilary grenade launcher mounted on his right shoulder predator style.

Would possibly be worthwhile if they could take a heavy weapon as well. Plasma cannon and Lascannon on a BS5 model would be sweet.

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

Hmmmm, A plasma pistol and a bolt pistol with the sisters of battle rules so you can the extra attack in close combat. wait a minute, wouldn't 2 pistols give you an extra attack? they are both close combat weapons. That could actually be fun to do. dual pistols, charging into a boyz squad... Can you say 40k movie scene?

Actually i was wondering about that also, It says you can trade your bolt pistol and or... the key point is the AND or, is it safe to think that if i wanted to take a 2 handed weapon i would have to trade both? or can a captain take a bolter and a power weapon? or does he have to take another one handed weapon? Do they still have the one and 2 handed weapons? i might be thinking about an earlier ed.

Don't read to far into this stuff. One and two handed has NOTHNG to do with what option you can take. If you wanted to you can even take two two-handed weapons.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

the and/or simply allows you to purchase 2 weapons from the list below.

You could swap both for one option below, but you can also swap only one. obviously, you keep more wargear that way.

Basically, you have 2 weapons. You may swap either of them for a weapon from the list indicated.

As for what's good,

Relic Blades are a good choice, especially on an I5 model. If you take a Relic Blade then a Stormbolter and Auxiliary Grenade launcher are good ranged compliments.

However, Captains arn't the best choice of HQ. Chaplains and Librarians are better overall(but that doesn't matter till you start playing competitivly)
