Right...I know I said I was going to have some Tau stuff up soon...but I played a game or two since then and decided otherwise...this time I play tested first...and I like wolves

The only problem I have is that I don't know whether I prefer lighter or darker wolves...and even if I did I would have no idea how to paint them!

So long story short...help???

Thanks in advance

It's okay...but personally that's too dark for me...I suppose I prefer the slightly lighter end of the Space wolves colour spectrum...

I'm just not sure how I could pull it off with minimal highlighting...as much as I try I can't get highlights on sm armour quite right...

I like this one:

If you're as new to Space Wolves as you sound, read up on the rest of the blog as well. It'll help immensely.

Okay...taking that as a base...how about adeptus battle grey...layer with fenris grey...then maybe some space wolves grey?
I prefer the blueish look...but maybe more of a grey blue?

That sounds like a plan. Break out that test mini and see how it works.

I'm a big fan of the light grey and use this method here to paint my Space Wolves.
http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-paint-space-wolves-armour.html

When people ask me, "How do you build your army?"
I tell them its "The ten-zero factor, coolness ten, combat effectiveness... zero."

There's a tutorial for that in the old how to paint space marines book if you are interested.

Something I did that varies from that tutorial I posted was that I based mine in Reaper's "Twilight Blue" (Part #: 9020)
http://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/paints-and-brushes/reaper-master-series-paints/reaper-master-series-paints-twilight-blue.html

If you purchase the Reaper Master Series Triad pack called "Grey Blues," it also comes with "Midnight Blue" (9019) and "Snow Shadow" (9021), both of which are good for shading and highlighting (respectively )

Okay...just a quick test on an old chaos marines arm...which of the two do you guys think is better...just a little highlight of a slightly lighter shade (picture 1)...or a pure space wolves grey highlight? (pictures 2 &3)

Just found a nice way on youtube from awesomepaintjob...

White, wash with black, layer with codex grey, layer with space wolves grey, highlight extreme edges with white...will try that when I get another test piece XD

*EDIT*

Plus at least my highlighting skills are getting better...I couldn't do that 2 months ago XD

LET THERE BE LIFE!

Right, rather than start a new thread asking once again how to paint my SW I thought I might as well just raise this one from the dead

I know it's been a long time, but I still can't get it right :/

All my attempts so far have been more blue than grey, so I've decided I will try the darker colour...but all the tut's I see online seem a bit too dark...or am I just being silly thinking that adeptus battlegrey is too dark?

I personally feel the old-skool space wolves true grey colours were the best, as seen in these pics.

Since then the space wolves 'grey' has gradually gotten more blue! Personally I now find the baby blue space wolves presented by GW quite horrible.

Codex Grey, with Fortress Grey drybrushing is pretty much all required. Then of course shoulder pads yellow and red, green eyes etc.

Damn undead... lemme get my gun...

Anyway... not a fan of the Adeptus eh?
My wolves look like this:
Spoiler:

But personally, I like the darker, more blue look. If you're looking for something more grey and lighter in tone, I happened across this:
http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-paint-space-wolves-armour.html
Spoiler:

Try it out. I actually for a moment considered doing this paint scheme instead of my original darker scheme...then remembered I'd have to repaint everything....no...

I just bought a pack of Space Wolves. It will be my first time painting them. Frankly, I can't stand the powder blue look of typical Space Wolves. Seriously, they look like they're wearing Sci-Fi track suits and should be up on stage rapping. I'm going to try painting mine using the new GW color Dark Reaper and highlight with Thunderhawk Blue ^.^

Wow, I love it!

Apart from the rusty look :/

I suppose I could just replace the rusty wash with black to add depth to the model...what do you guys think?

I like a very light color for my Space Wolves, I recently finished my second group you can see some pics on my blog.

I used a baby blue-ish color and some snowy dusting on the lower half of their legs. My next set I'm going to try using Azure in Vallejo's Air paint line for the base color.

Right...tried following the BaC tutorial...but it seems I didn't add enough Space wolves grey to my codex grey.

Gonna try giving it a light wash to bring out the detail and tone down the grey a bit...but so far it looks pretty good

I will most definitely be posting pics when finished to show off how my painting has improved

Any advice?

Right...

After much trial and error...I HAVE SUCCEEDED!

I start with codex grey, wash it black, then layer on a mix of codex grey and SW grey, then wash black, then another layer of mixed grey, then a highlight of the mixed grey with white

Looks like a very greyish blue once other colours are applied, but it does look great

Pics will be up as soon as I find that damned camera...
