WIP I'm thinking of shading it down with Cryxbane highlight (P3) with a 2 brush method, or is there a better way to do this? Comments welcome!

Thanx in advance!

This is about 80% complete now.

As I only have a few hours a night to paint my models, here is the current status

1. White has been painted with a backwards approach, using a modulation technique via air brush, base coating with an off White -> shaded light tan brown -> final shade of a warm grey
2. Other base colors were all thinned down 3:1 and layered by brush of about 3 to 4 coats, this gave it a nice smooth surface without clogging up all the little details
3. I then washed all the gold areas with Games Workshops Sepia wash

Still to do ->
1. Badab black wash over the silver metal areas
2. Purple wash over the purple/red areas
3. Layer regal blue over the menoth symbols (don't like the ultra marines blue)
4. Pick out white armor area and shade the ceases further
5. First Hightlight of all areas
6. Final selective highlight to sharpest edges and corners to make certain area's pop

If there is something else that might make the model pop more or look better please fill me in and let me know!

I adore that white. If you do anything else to it, shade it more like you did on the right leg.
I look forward to seeing it finished.

Latest Progress still to do:

1. 1st and 2nd highlight of metallic metals
2. 1st and 2nd highlight of gold
3. shade/highlight the Sanguine Base area's (Tried the GW and hated the Leviathan Purple wash over the P3 sanguine highlight)
4. Final selective highlight to sharpest edges and corners of entire model
5. Base color the flames, shade and highlight

I'm trying to figure out the best approach to deal with the Sanguine Base area's, either to shade it down (Create a custom wash with P3 mixing medium) then highlight or layer it up to Sanguine Highlight. Anyone might have some tips on this one? Progressed so far hate to stuff it up now!

Current update probably near the end of finishing this model.

Only managed to layer up the purple area's and slight touch ups, hopefully tonight I'll be able to layer up the sword and finish all highlights!

Still missing:

1. Drybrush/highlight all metallic area's
2. Layer up the sword with GW Chainmail
3. Wash the PoM symbol
4. 1st highlight and 2nd distinct highlight of all area's
5. Paint up the flames and touch up any paint over spill area's
6. Pick a good Matt cote varnish/seal and put it in my battlefoam bag!

That is really well painted.
How did you achieve the flames?
It will look stunning when finished.

Here are the steps I took today on the flames.

1. Base flame area all white
2. Created a wash with P3 heartfire (Ratio 1 paint, 2 mixing medium, 2 water) and washed the entire flame area
3. Dry brushed GW golden yellow on 1/3 of the bottom of the flames
3. Created another wash using GW blazing orange (Ratio 1 paint, 2 mixing medium, 2 water) this time I tip the model upside down and washed only the top 2/3
4. I then dry brushed P3 sanguine Base at 3/3 mark of the flames
5. I went back and washed the bottom 1/3 with P3 heartfire wash only in the creases this time.
6. I then used GW's Baal Red wash, tipped the model upside down and did a wash from the 2/3 mark (orange and red area's only)
7. from the 3/3 mark I did another Ball red wash.

Basically the lighter the color the hotter the area is, so color theory is Yellow -> Orange -> red. (you can start with white before yellow I got lazy), if you find that it still doesn't look right, you can go back dry brush the lower side with yellow again, mid way dry brush orange, then dry brush a dark red on top, and this time 1/2 down do a orange wash only in the creases, then turn it upside down and redo a red wash. I Find that doing a wash at the end ties the pigments alot better and makes it looks alot more natural.

Hope that helps! If you would like clarification or some pictures I can see what I can come up with!

SoH current progress!

Completed for today!

1. Shaded and /highlighted all PoM symbolic icons
2. Did all first highlight of all gold/silver areas except the sword and back chimney! (reason I paint the back chimney last is because I need to hold it to paint!)

Still Remaining!
1. Shade/hightlight sword via airbrush with another metallic modulation effect
2. Selective highlight on overall model.
3. Select a basing theme, paint, shade, hightlight and maybe paint the Left / Right and back arcs of the base.

Sorry for the long wait! Been having less and less time to paint due to friends kidnapping me to go out! Quick update on painting the sword that I've been working on! (better pics this time) It's almost done just need more time!

1. Recoated P3 Pig Iron on all metal areas of blade
2. Used GW Badab Black wash on the blade
3. Airbrushed P3 Thalmar Black for dark modulation effect
4. Airbrushed P3 Quick Silver for the lighter modulation effect

Things left to do!

1. Re doing PoM symbols with P3 Coal Black
2. Touch up the flame with a darker color at the top and a darker black/red wash on the very top area's.
2. Final highlight on all area's
3. Basing

Finally I managed to work up my layering technique and some TMM skills! Since I've been skipping karaoke and finishing at 4pm after work now, I've been having the extra time I've always wanted to work on this model!

Updated and done ->

1. I redid the entire PoM symbols simply because I didn't like the color I had done and wanted to go with the original P3 Coal black layering it up
2. I had been stuck for weeks trying to get the TMM on the sword looking how I'd want it, easiest way that I found was to start with a very bright metal like GW's Mithril Silver and do washes on selective area's, if some area still seemed too bright just go over it again with another layer of wash.
3. I did another dry brush on the highest tips of the flame with a darkish red/brown to tone it down, previously it felt too bright
4. I've managed to do some basing with the new GW Texture paint, to me it felt like paint mixed with fine grains of sand which works quite well! It saved me the trouble of putting superglue or PVA on the base, dipping it into some sand, wait for it to dry and then first base color! Now it's become simplified to -> Texture paint -> Drybrush-> Wash saved me 3 steps!

Maybes???

Here is when your thoughts count! just some additional things I am thinking to add to this model ->

1. I am thinking of doing another level of highlighting on the purple/metals - YES/NO?
2. Some Static grass on the base (Seems fairly flimsy so I am not so sure) - YES/NO?
3. Because it's a WM miniature I am thinking of lining the base with some designs for eg, front, side back arcs etc - YES/NO?
4. Others????

Looks like the journey is almost over with this model! I can finally be proud of the work and effort I've put into it! I would love to do a tutorial for some that were wondering how this or how that was done! But it would probably take forever as I am a slow painter and like my mini's looking nice before I put it on the table!

Thx for reading up! Remember your comments is what helps me improve!
