Hello,
Search didn't come up with anything on dakka. Does anyone know some good articles on how to paint Necrons? I know it probably sounds easy but not to me.
I am new to painting and want to learn. I think Necrons would be a good army to start with.

Personally I'd recommend starting with Space Marines if you want to learn to paint just for the sheer number of Space Marine tutorials around. Large, flat areas of armour are also great for a beginner.
However if your mind is set on Necrons I'd recommend checking out the various tutorials on YouTube. Just search "painting Necrons" or "Necron tutorial".

Necrons are a pretty good choice to get you into painting and there are a whole heaps of ways to paint them.
My suggestion is to start with your basic Troops, Necron warriors. You can paint a whole heap of these guys up really quickly and using some of the most basic painting techniques and you'll get a really good finish. Once you get into it and your painting skills increase, you can spend a bit more time on your centre piece type models like lords, flayed ones etc.
Here is a really quick guide to the way I paint Necron warriors.
1 - Chaos black spray under coat
2 - once the U/C is dry check for any spots that your spray has missed and brush on Chaos black
3 - Dry brush bolt gun metal or chainmail all over the model but try to leave the weapons and armoured shoulder plates black. Make sure you thin down your paint with a little bit of water and get pretty good coverage so that only a small amount of black u/c is showing throw your metal.
4 - Highlight with Mithril silver - this can be done really quickly by lightly dry brush over the raised edges of the model
5 - Washing - This bit is up to you and depends on the look you want to go for -
- Basic metal - Badab Black wash slightly watered down
- Old looking metal - Devlan Mud wash
- Supernatural looking metal - Asurmen Blue, Thraka Green or Leviathan Purple wash
6 - Touch up the shoulders with Chaos Black (if you've made a mess with the metallics) then highlight the edges with Snot Green (or match your highlight to whichever wash colour youve chosen for the body
7 - Eyes - Necron eyes look best in green (in my opinion)
Base using cold, dark colours, black and shades of grey/blue look best and make the metal of you models stand out more.
Make sure you try this out with one model to start with, but if your happy you can easily punch out 5 - 10 warriors in a just couple of hours using this technique.
The best thing about chosing Necrons is that once you get you groove on, you can paint a whole army quite quickly with surprising results.
If your interested I can post some shots of my Necron Army painted using mostly the techniques described above and if you want any more info i'd be hapy to help

Prime black, paint with chainmail, wash with thinned down Badab Black, highlight if you want with chainmail. Do eyes whichever color strikes your fancy. Easy as that if you want a quick paint job. Easy to learn with as well and it will only cost you 3 paints and a primer.

Thank you for the post. If it isn't too much trouble, pics would be great. I'll be buying the models soon and I'll try using this technique.

sprayed black (krylon Camo)
Sprayed Nickel (krylon)
Badab Black (thinned w/ a bit of extender so it doesn't get too globby)
Green ink on 1 of the tubes of the gun and chest piece.
Optional...
Very thin rust red brown spotted on with a dabbing motion. Contrasting base (im my case cobra leather).

Heres a few pics from my Necron army. No frills but the overall effect when you have massed warriors on the table top is very effective.
Just remember to trial on a couple of individual models to make sure you are happy before you go mass producing! And, most importantly, have fun!
