Posting from my phone so sorry if this has been duplicated else where on here.

Looks like wolves will be getting a second wave. Darnok over on warseer has said that wolves are getting a thunderwolf box released in march.
Also alot of the wolves metal models are unavailable on gws website.

Seems quite a good sign

Not just Darnok but also Harry & Hastings a couple of weeks back although they never specified March. The only question left is will it just be TWC or will there be other bits for the puppies?

... The only TWC model we have seen has been from way the hell back.

So maybe (Shock! Gasp!) They'll change it.

Tis a good sign, but I fear what this means for nids. That would make it more likely we'll get less stuff, or maybe just a few finecasted things.

Damn GW let us know already!

Oh well the one I got will probably end up being 50% cheaper anyway.

They will sell loads, and become so popular that all marine armies will have cavalry of some sort.

Cold ones for salamanders, horses for templars, bats for blood angels.

Then exodites will be in the eldar codex, and people will claim the eldar are just jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm happy to see the models will be released, for completedness, but the idea of marines riding wolves still doesnt seem right IMO.

Hopefully one chapter will get elephant cavalry... and then GW will have finally reached the point when even they will have stop and say, "Gah, what are we doing?!"

I am genuinely waiting for someone to release/me to discover a suitable big cat miniature, I have a great idea for a SW counts as army but jungle/cat based rather than arctic/wolf based.

The Thundercat Cavalry will be the centre piece.

Because Marines on giant wolves are the most ridiculous thing about 40k, right? It's a model people have been waiting since October 2009 for, so it's a long time coming. A lot of people have bought third party ones by now, but I personally haven't liked most that I've seen. Curious how the GW ones will look.

Well said Brother SRM.

The other bonus assuming they will be a plastic 3 pack? Is they will throw open some more conversion options for foot based Space Wolves.

Hopefully GW will have been sensible enough to make them compatible with standard torsos, arms & heads. Providing more wolfy variation for squads & vice versa with any luck.

Hopefully, they'll look NOTHING like the my little prancing wolf-pony Canis rides on. Who ever sculpted that thing should be busted back down to only sculpting clay ashtrays for parents.

Thats the problem with GW, they are likely to drop the ball. Look at the Dreadknight...could have been an epic awesome model, instead its terrible. You just never know with GW...

They may not be the most ridiculous thing but its pretty close. Any cavlary in a sci fi setting is rediculos. But space vikings riding giant space wolves firing wolfguns and hitting people with wolfaxes is pretty stupid. To be honest space wolves in general are pretty rediculous.

At least get your space wolf hate right, it is Wolfy Wolfborn riding a giant wolf with his two Wolf Claws, Wolftooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman and Saga of the Wolfkin.

GW didn't invent Cavalry in Sci-fi. We understand you don't like it.

With the prevalence of melee combat in 40k, complaining about cavalry, just seems to me, a little out of whack.

Hopefully they come 3 to a pack and not 2 to a pack like the mournfangs.

The Mythicast ones are good models. I got some bad molds though. Check out this gallery, you can see all the green stuff work I had to do. One of the wolves had 2 left feet and the one I put my lord on had all the teeth broken. There were other minor defects, but the models do look good after you have worked on them. I drilled some holes in the saddle area, and magnetized them. I highly recommend this so you can swap out marine bodys on them.

I don't think cavalry in science fiction is necessarily a dead idea... I'm not crazy about GW's two major implementations (Rough Riders (especially the default old horse versions) and the aforementioned TWC) but I could see some limited space for them.

Primarily, I'd see them as the kind of unit that would primarily be recruited from colonists. Colonists are going to have a reason to use 'riding beasts' as they're adapted to the environment, work great on uneven terrain, and can conceivably forage instead of requiring gas or other fuel. Horses are really stable on hillsides and such as compared to motorbikes and even quads.

Realistically, i think the 'cavalry charge' is dead, but when armies are recruiting from wilder planets I could see scouts using local beasts. They'd be a bit faster, and could get through rough terrain a lot of vehicles would have trouble with. In the 40k design philosophy, I guess this would be some movement upgrades and maybe access to infiltrate or similar.

40k throws a couple wrenches in this: Transport is relatively 'cheap' so it's actually semi-practical to haul a bunch of horses from planet to planet. Melee combat is still critical and key in pretty much any conflict, not just the kind of thing that is kept to fighting in close urban environments.

(I still wish I had gone through with my idea of building Guard Rough Riders riding giant hermit-crab creatures based of Tyranid parts...)

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

not sure I agree with that. TWC are beasts on the table. Very expensive point wise, but I prefer that unit over a land raider full of terminators. It preforms better overall having 14 wounds in the unit.

I agree on the Rough Riders part, but at the same time...it's the "best fit" for the Rough Rider concept in the Imperial Guard. Motorcycles just aren't made for massed charges I think--unless, of course, you're wearing power armor.

Under the old IG codex, there was actually a doctrine for "Xeno-Beasts" published in White Dwarf. Example they used was of Carnosaurs--which is, of course, awesome.

But there are also the Eldar Exodites, who ride titanic dinosaur-ish beasties.

Probably close enough to the one that they've already released, I'd think...

But then, who knows!
