Note that any and all fluff on this thread is not yet final.
Vlorians come from a death ice world where even the wind can freeze a man in his tracts on a stormy day. The Imperium has turned a cold shoulder on the Vlora and left it die by xenos hands of the filfthy Orks, and Tryanids. If it not for the awe inspiring Volrian troops the planet and sector would have been anything, but annhilated. The planet itself even seemed to pic the side of the Volrians as cold storms often struck soon after a xenos encounter. That or the world is doing what is known best for, being a death ice world. Ice would collaspe, cold winds would swoop in freezing a entire war into something of a artistic statue. Traveling by land is near impossible on Volra because the ice and snow would clog any engine, slip any wheel and make any track stick. Even the skies were unforgiving as water vapor would freeze in high speed winds forming razor winds. The ice so sharp it flay a man in a matter of seconds. The only thing that could survive such conditions were either the native life of the skies with skin so thick they could absorb bolter rounds easily with out even a flinch. The Valkyrie was the only choice of transportation left, and thus forced the Vlorian forces to become masters at the art of flying and falling with grace. Due to the cold shoulder of the Imperium, Volrians annouced that they shun the Emperor for his crulty and ignorance of their exsistance dispite deep faith in him. Volrians declared independence from the Emperor and that they were their own nation. Soon after declaring independence Volrians marched out to conqure the sector of cold worlds and conqured the worlds became. Most worlds agreed to join with no blood shed and founded a system of checks and balences creating the Volrian empire. The Volrians were known for interalerance of different religions and allowed many to mix as long as the people did of what they were asked. This caused chaos to easily step in, but due to the open and willingness of religion in the sector any cults that were formed were easily discovered and destoryed instantly with the full force of a regiment. 10,000 troops to smite only a few, but this method insured that the empire was not weak.
The Polisian Dominion is a group of 16 planets (15 systems) that recently denounced the rule of the Imperium for a variety of reasons. Foremost in the Dominion and seat of the high throne of Lord Cerphius Urk of Volra is Volra, the other planets being Reesthius, Pheobia, Solara, Jedia, Deatrix, Veyda, Ishta, Lekka, Hastus, Klightus, Mordeci, Ignace, Thaddius, Jericus and Zaddion. The following is an account of each planet.
Reesthius is a massive hive world, and closest to an Imperial planet. The capital city of Reesthius is hive Anglia, so fast that it covers the entirety of on of the three continents. Hives Cathus and Karchus are on the largest continent, whilst hive Destris is on the smallest. A planet with a surface scorched black as midnight due to the heat of the gigantic star it orbits, Reesthius has a single ocean of boiling magma. Aside from the valuable ore mined from the surface, Reesthius produces massive amounts of energy, which is stored and exported to other worlds. Unfortunately, the close proximity of the planet to the star, dangerously high levels of radiation are common. This reduces the life expectancy to about 20 years, less if the person has to work the mines. Radiation shielding was, however installed in the houses of the upper classes. A second side effect of the radiation was an unusually high level of mutations. This lead to hatred of the Imperium, as whole families would be killed in purges, led by Inquisitorial forces. The people, with hatred in their hearts, destroyed the ruling classes and joined the Dominion. Current reports suggest radiation shielding is being installed in all four hives. The planet, though a priority target, has so far been difficult to take as the gives are equipped with all manner of planetary defenses, and the condition of the planet makes landing a suitably large force elsewhere on the surface impossible.
Pheobia is a simple agri world, with a small population. However, one of the planets five regiments suffered a fate that stirred them into action against the token force of PDF soldiers. The regiment in question was killed by The Grey Knights after a short campaign against the Demon Spawn of Khorne on the planet of Alsthis III. Following the completion of the campaign, the space marines retreated into orbit and set a year-long orbital bombardment into place, whilst sending word to the five planets who had sent troops that victory had been bought at the cost of all lives. One man from Pheobia survived. Making it back home, he told all those who would listen of the fate the men had been condemned to. In horror, the people, already starved because of the heightened exportation needs due to new colonies being settled half way across the galaxy, rebelled, forming the Dominion with the other planets.
Solara is small forge world, located in the heart of the Dominion. It joined not because of the wishes of the people, but because some of the local forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus, a splinter cult who wished to create new technologies through research, rebelled against their masters, renaming themselves the 'Technologiers.. Seeing an opportunity, they sided with the Dominion, and are one of it's greatest resources. Inducting new members from the other planets, they are attempting to not only develop new tech, but also to reverse engineer the STC through the use of bastardised xenos machinery.
Jedia is a hive world with many great spaceports, and was once the center of Imperial commerce from all around it. Located in the same system as Deatrix, Jedia received the exports from other planets and sent them to areas throughout the Imperium. This meant it was also the headquarters of the local Administratum, and was also responsible for relaying communication, passengers, imperial agents and the regiments of the local planets to their final destinations. The people of the planet grew disgruntled because of their continued poverty, for although the planet made a huge profit trading and retrading goods, none of this fortune made its way into the pockets of the workers, instead settling into the money room of the rich. The poor, living in the underhives, eventually had enough when an accident caused a large tower filled with gold and other precious metals reptured, raining more than a million workers lifetimes wages into the capital cities' underhive. The people flew into a frenzy, gathering up what had fallen and fighting over it, too. In response to the accident, the govener sealed of the partition of theunderhive, and released deadly gasses. Alas, he did not seal it well enough, and close to half the souls living in the underhive perished, leaving a nightmarish scene of dead bodies littering streets. Caring not, the govener sent the arbites, equipped with gas masks, down to retrieve the precious metals. As word spread of this horrific act, the people became less and less controllable. When they finally marched on the governer's palace, there was no man, woman or child left to stand against them who was not already dead. Casting the governer from the top of the hive, they joined the Dominion. Today Jedia is a space port frequented by free traders, pirates, mercenaries, slavers, ork freebooters, eldar corsairs and even less conventional peoples. Everything can be traded in the great markets that now fill the offices of the administratum and the warehouses once filled with riches, in any currency, and with nearly anyone. Whether you want to buy squig-leather from an Ork captain or sell a dark eldar drugs, Jedia is the place to be.
Deatrix was once a proud world, steeped in military history and inhabited by a full chapter of Astartes. The people were stoic and self controlled, never flinching or breaking lines on the battlefield. The Astartes were the same, though there was the smallest seed of pride in their hearts, which would come to be their downfall. Slaanesh saw these people who denied themselves the pleasures she revelled in, and swore that she would turn these people. Nurturing the pride in the hearts of the great Space Marines, she turned them to her will. In the ensuing chaos caused by the whirlwind of violence and death caused by the rampaging legion, all that stood against these corrupted warriors was the people alone. Even this, a space marine chapter turning to chaos, did not garner any attention from the Imperium; no support was given. On the surface, war raged. The PDF was killed to a man in the first week, commanded by incompetents who ignored the numerous and experienced generals at their disposal, choosing instead to follow their own methods. Within the first month, any semblance of order had disappeared and every man, woman and child left took up arms, fighting in small groups. Slowly, painfully, the Astartes were killed, the traitors driven back to the ruin of their great fortress-monastery. The final conflict of the war lasted a week; in that time the remaining population was halved. The people were finally victorious, but ten years of war without any support or recognition had caused those remaining to denounce any allegience to the Imperium of mankind. Now they are survivers, a people whose archives, buildings and identity had been blown away, the surface burning and covered in craters, ruins and ash. Despite this, the Deatricians still stand firm in stoic determination-they will rebuild, they will regrow, they will recover and be greater than ever before.
Veyda is a lush world of Jungle humid in the extreme. Though not quite a death world it is most certainly dangerous, as it's surface is covered in gigantic reptilian predators. It was in the canopy that the people of this world lived, practicing their tribal ways and wild rituals. The Vedyans were technologically starved by the Imperium to keep them under control, lasguns only given to those who were sent off to other worlds. Unable to fight against the weapons of the Imperium, the Veydans had no choice but to resign to the tithe. The only advanced technology any of those who were not given to the tithes would ever see was in the vast underground complexes that had been assymilated by the forest through long millenia of neglect. These ruins were the only hint that the Veydans had ever been advanced colonists. No Imperials were ever told of the ruins. The Dominion saw an opportunity in the Veydans and offered them a deal after they liberated the planet: Join the Dominion, and they would be treated like full membeers, given access to all the technology and trading goods they would need. The Veydans have since come down from the canopy and become a single distinct people; their former tribes now more like great families. The ruins have also been more extensively excavated and charted, with the help of the Technologiers of Solara. Already, several large compounds have been cleared, though a deeper system of passages indicates they are, or at some point were, directly connected. The compounds have been named warrens, and the Veydans are already settling in. Two STC fragments have already been discovered in the Warrens.
Ishta is in the nearest system to Volra, which it shares with Lekka. A gigantic, planet-sized moon orbiting a massive gas giant, Ishta is a staging place for the harvwsting of the rare gasses that the giant is composed of. Ishta and Lekka were the first two planets freed by Volra, and the higher standard of living and greater freedom mean the the people of the planets are much happier. It has also allowed them to form mining unions, who are beginning to become very power full. Reports are suggesting that the unions are running underground operations, distributing contaband and otherwise taking over from the gangs that invariably form in hive cities. Estimates indicate that each of the 10 unions are able to field a number of battle trained members in numbers roughly equal to those of an entire regiment of guardsmen. Though the government is wary, the unions are currently posing no threat to anyone.
Lekka is a Civilised world, of a climate not dissimilar to that of Terra. It is in all ways average, and has no real speciality, instead being the sort of mundane place that exists only to eke out what small profit it can with what it has. It has never been paid any great attention, and is relatively worthless. The people look kindly on the Dominion, as it is the first time they have ever been involved in anything other than a harebrained scheme to sell the soil of one planet to another, and because they have, as all those living in the Dominion do, a better standard of living.
Hastus was a very productive hive world, manufacturing lasguns, artillary shells and flak armour of high quality with great speed, until that is, a rather unfortunate coincidence that made a theoretically bad situation far worse. Not long after it's liberation by Volra, Hastus was attacked by a Waugh!, an unfortunate occurance and near certain death for the inhabitants in any case. Making the situation far worse, however, was the arrival of a tendril of hive fleet _______. With the simultanious attack of Ork and Tyranid, the planet was flung into war. The worst of the fighting took place within the gigantic hive of Shorgoth, where both the Orks and the Tyranids landed. The people fought a siege from within, battling the invading forces. Rapidly the hive turned into a single three way battlefield, as reinforcements arrived from the rest of the Dominion. Not long after this, the ________ chapter of space marines also attacked at this time, supported by several regiments of guardsmen. Also landing in Shorgoth, the third invading force was forced into a conflict against the three factions already fighting. The planet has ceased to be productive at all, as the civilians fight for their lives in a battle that never ends.
Klightus is a swamp death world, and highly inhospitable. Every life form is poisonous, and poison gas clouds also drift along the surface. The smallest creature is a distinctly arachnid organisms, somewhat like a spider/scorpion hybrid, a foot long. At the the top of the brutally long food chain (humans are located at the very bottom) sits a 30 metre long crocodilian amphibious creature, with skin as tough as the armour on a Leman Russ, the so called Kloroghdile can crush a Baneblade in it's jaws. The sparse population of the planet, living in prefabricated structures about 50 metres off the ground and forced to hunt native fauna for food, was further plagued by sustained Dark Eldar raiding, and quickly accepted a place in the Dominion in return for support. The Dark eldar have been driven off, and forces from other planets are helping to clear large swathes of land in order to build large, safe compounds.
Mordeci is a hive world that exists on the ruins of ruined civilisation. Reclaimed from Orks during the great crusade, it has since fallen to hostile forces no less than 18 times. Orks five times; Chaos four; the eldar twice; dark eldar once killed everyone on the planet; mutants have risen up and destroyed their masters three times; it was revealed to be a necron tomb world and fell to their forces once; and renegade forces have taken the world twice. Fearing that Imperial neglect would lead to their own demise too, the people chose to side with Volra when offered the chance and killed thir own governors.
Ignace is a planet of endless, golden sand dunes pockmarked by small Oasi. The Ignacians travel from Oasis to Oasis using dishevelled vehicles and other non-biological methods of transport. Chimeras covered with cloth, as extra protection from sand, are very popular and even make tents needless. The Ignacians sided with the Volrans in exchange for assistance in terms of both technology and logistics. In fact, the Volrans are seen as very close friends the Ignacians see them as coming frjoom a desert of ice and snow rather than one of sand.
Thaddius is an agri world, very much like Lekka in most respects.
Jericus is an industrial hive world, and is normal for such a planet. The Governor, hoping for more power, joined the Dominion but was overthrown by his new allies. The planet has had a general upturn in standard of living since joining.
Zaddion is a planet very similar to Jericus, except for the fact that the people rose up themselves, overthrew the corrupted ruler and joined the Dominion.
