Hi, i am hoping to get some advice on painting Space Wolves. To date i have only ever pained Orks for both 40k and Fantasy, so have never tried painting SM armor.
With this in mind i am trying to gather as many tips as i can about painting the Space Wolves army i am about to start. I am hoping to try and do them in the "baby-blue" colour that seems (only seems) to be more prevalent than the darker blue that i have seen them done in.
I understand that there is no "bottle to body" colour for Space Wolves (despite GW making a Space Wolves Grey) so i was wondering how everyone here painted theirs? In return for the (hopefully) deluge of knowledge i promise i will post up pictures of my finished squads. Can't say fairer than that. So, what is the best/ your way of painting Space Wolf armor?
Thanks in advance
Xander

Its 50/50 space wolves grey and shadow grey for GW paint. Even though they are both called grey, the mixed result is a bluish grey.
Here is a handy chart for color comparison is you dont want GW paints. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart
I have used both GW and the Vallejo equivalents and the color is the same.

I used straight shadow grey for most of mine, and they turned out fine. If I did them again I'd make them a bit less blue, but they still look good. I also did my terminators in a regal blue/codex grey mix.

If you want maximum coverage with minimum effort, grab some Fenris Grey. It's Foundation paint, one coat will cover quite well and give a decently close result to the Shadow Grey/SW Grey paint.
Honestly, unless you use Vallejo or dropper bottles, re-mixing paints to get the color just right is a pain.

I've just gotten into the WH40K hobby and got myself some Space Wolves. I paint mine with a baby blue color as well, the best blue I found was a light blue color by Folk Art. I'm guessing you can probably get a similar color by mixing some Citadel/Reaper/Vallejo paint, I wouldn't know which colors to mix. I'll try and see what the name of the color was by Folk Art.
Here's what some of my wolves look like, I haven't got any more recent photos of them and I haven't got the best camera, I've got a baby blue base color with some "frosting" on the legs and white for the helmets.

Edit: so apparently it seems I'm really failing on figuring out how to post a picture.

I've painted my SW Razorback with a Astronomican Grey base coat, and then Space Wolves grey (thinned down, two coats), its very light, but I like it.

I paint mine the 'Eavy Metal way- 1:1:1 mix of Space Wolves Grey, Shadow Grey and Kommando Khaki. First highlight uses the same colours but increases the Space Wolves Grey to 2 parts. Second highlight is Space Wolves Grey.
As for keeping the same colour, get an old pot and fill it with the colours you choose to mix. That way you'll only ever have to do it once or twice for an army.

I've got this method which is fairy quick and yields a very light grey armour.

I suspect you could modify it to darken the look depending on your personal tastes.
Hope this helps!

There is a nice Space Wolves painting guide in the latest issue of White Dwarf. I'll be using it to paint up some of the new models.

Me personally I use Blue Grey from vallejo paints, drybrushed over a dark grey primer. Then I use a brown wash to give them dirty look. I think they come out ok.
