So I am using some Dark Angel Veterans (the robed ones) with a little conversion as Blood Angel Vanguard Vets armed with storm shields, power weapons and power fists.

Their armor will be red with gold helmets, I cant decide whether to paint their robes white or black. Any tips or ideas ? I want them to stand out and look badass.

Either white or bone. Black means Death Company/chaplains in a BA army.

imo mechrite red robes would be washed out by all that red already on the armour. A good contrasting colour like a pale white or black would be more interesting to look at. But really the robe colour is your choice.

I would pick a bone white like the Dark Angels, but that's just me.

^ This. No reason why you cant have some designs picked out in red on the white robes.

Just something to think about ; robes + hot jet exhaust

These aren't your typical jet pack marines, they have stOrm shields and ride around in a razorback

Having them hoof it is defiantly an option, but you miss out on their potentially game-changing special rule. Being able to charge on the turn you deep strike in with descent of angels is really nice.

I like the idea of a black robe. With the Red power armour they don't have to look like DC and it might tie in better with the ret of the army, depending on how you painted them

Either Bone or Black...or even Black backed with bone.

This is absolutely untrue, robe colors are meaningless. The especially vampy Terminator Seargeant in Space Hulk has black robes and is in your codex, you should know better.

I'd suggest a bone colour. I did the same scheme for my BA honour guard using the same kit:

After some experimenting I do conclude that the bone/dirty white robes look the most stunning with the red armor and gold helmets

It's true that black is the colour for chaplains and death company, but their robes are still bone otherwise it would be black robes on black armour... Kinda pointless and untrue...

I wish I'd have thought of doing a black robe on my sternguards to be honest, sounds awesome! Especially as in the old codex, BA sergeants would have black trim on their armour to signify their position, makes more sense to do that with vets too I reckon.
