So, I've been called off the bench to join an Adepticon Team, and they're all doing various BA chapters. Because I've always wanted to paint a yellow marine army, I picked Lamenters. I figure with Army Painter, foundation/HD paints, and reaper master series triads, yellow isn't as hard as it used to be.

The problem is the shoulder pad/chapter badge. I thought for sure there was a molded pad, either GW, FW, or third party. After a quick search, it appears that I'm freehanding them. So, are there are techniques to getting a black/white check with overlaid heart that I should know, or is it pretty still "draw the design with a sharp pencil and spend hours cleaning each edge up?"

Flames of Wars makes a squadron decal sheet that has small hearts on them, they are perfect scale for the Lamenter pad..as far as the checkers go, good luck, I think you are on your own with that one.

They make extremely high quality resin shoulder pads with the checkers sculpted right on. I bought 60 of them for my budding Lamenters army and have not been disappointed. For the hearts, I have printed my own decals using decal paper and the Bell of Lost Souls' babab war decal sheets.

Believe me, from personal experience drawing all those damn checkers takes 20x as much time as freehanding a heart, and it's impossible to get the lines to look perfect, or consistent between pads.

An all-BA Adepticon team? That's awesome! And Lamenters are one of the coolest flavors, imo...

Looking forward to seeing your progress, and it will hopefully inspire me to paint mine this month for my own BA portion of an Adepticon team!

What style of lists will you guys be running?

You're called in late for the Team Tournament and you're going to build and paint a 1000 point force in time for Adepticon and it is going to be one that has a lot of.... yellow?!?
