Bounding Ultramarine Assault Trooper

[UPDATE] ITS DONE! Been adding details, here are some more detailed images. [/UPDATE] Ok, so after seeing a couple really epic Titans online, I've decided its time that I made one of these monsters to teach my friends a lesson on the battlefield. I'm using primarily 3/16 inch foam core poster-board for this construction, with hot glue and a little ductape to secure things while everything sets. The dimensions I've worked out at 25 inches tall (a compromise from the many sizes I've seen people build these at) and about 18 inches wide. I'll try to update this as often as possible but progress is slow as I'm doing this largely by eye, so don't bother asking for templates because they don't exist.

The smaller size will deffently help. So far so good. Just keep at it and a bit of advice. Set up time tables for yourself. So that way you can track your progress and keep a pace. With the upper body done the legs and torso will probably be the next phase of construction. Go by phases so with each peiece done you can move on to other parts easier. Leave the detailes for later. Mainly the head and arms. Check out other examples and use a variety of different bits. Hit up other types of models like tanks, artillery pieces and armored fighting vechiels. You can have a lot of fun with this project.

day three in my voyage and my titan can stand on its own two feet! I still need shin armor but other than that the legs are pretty much done again, questions comments concerns and criticisms are greatly appreciated. [EDIT] uh... the thought occurs, I have no idea how many points it costs to field this beast, can someone help me with that? [/EDIT]

Rough shape looks fine, though I can't comment on the scale. It's a bit early to say "looks good" or not, seeing that you only have a rough foamcore skeleton of a torso - the shape and scaling of the limbs are where things usually go wonky, so take care with those and you'll be fine, at least for the basic forms.

quick update, got the legs and torso almost completely done and primed.
As always, questions comments concerns criticisms are always welcome.
Also, anyone with tips on doing the head I'd really like to hear how others may have done it.

Thanks again to everyone's input
Was at the hardware store earlier and found something that looked like it would make perfect arms for my titan, got ideas for the weapons but first I wanted a little feedback on the mounts I found, Good idea?
sorry for the poor image quality but as I've said before my camera is trash.

Ok after a long night with the hack saw I realized that the first set of lava cannons I'd installed were too long and therefor gak.
With that in mind, and using nothing but a hammer I installed new lava cannons.

Currently a little over 2 weeks into the process, this is what I've got so far.
I recently tried to field it in it's current state, and the local apoc game guys said no because I had too many structure points... those cowards

Hello,
At this point you may want to cover up some of the rough foam core seams, I would suggest using plasi-card for this or the plas-struct building pieces, they come in lots of sizes, and have fun stuff like ladders and such. they also have L shapes (angle iron) and box shapes, which you could cut off one side and place around the thinner areas.
Regards,
Carl

This comment has started many an argument throughout Dakka history. lmao. Too tall. 19-22" max.

^ This. Also, the tape showing on the back of the legs pains my scratch-building sensibilities. Other that that, this guy is great work! I love the use of the Star wars blaster. Great find and a great eye for seeing a Titan in that toy.

This is one of the better built titans in my book. The smaller scale makes a lot of the grunt work easier. As for scale, I don't really see the down side. I know your trying to have it fit to scale and all. But, it really is a massive pain in the ass to have to haul around a model that is nearly 4ft tall. The smaller scale works better in that it allows for more flexibility in the game and, its also easier to transport.

People keep saying this is small, but let me tells you... when you drop it on the table you will not have one single person say its small. It is fun though, walk through the store with it and have a crowd following get to the table forcibly set the titan down on the table Everyone looking at you as you say... "Deal with it"

Smaller scale? 4ft? This is a Warlord, not an Imperator.

I say that you bring it next month. I think that we can find a "counter" for it.
@Ghidorah, having seen this thing in person, IMHO, it may be a little on the small size, two or three inches taller. And that may be due to the 'hunched' stature and the lack of shoulder guns. Not sure if 4 inches shorter would have quite the same effect. It dominants a roughly 4 x 10 table quite nicely. But this of course is just my two cents so take it as you may.
