I've been working on designing a game based off the Robotech/Macross series and I'm am getting close to having prototypes done for a complete line of minis. I could use some opinions on the game and if you're up for it some playtest data. This is set for 1/285 scale so the minis would be in the same scale as battletech.

I've made the rules available here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6bjnbqqn8hzpea8

This is still the first draft so feel free to point out mistakes or if stuff is missing. I don't mind criticism as long as it's helpful

I'll be doing all sorts of nice graphics and what not as I get this a bit more developed.

I've approached HG & Palladium with some of my designs which are being reviewed for liscensing, nothing concerete but they were very positive about the miniatures, so there's a chance it will see production.

yes. Ral Partha made them back in 1995. they are in Battletech known as Wasp's (IIRC)

there are the 7 deadly Battletech mini's that make up a large portion of the Macross saga. the Shadow hawk, the Maurauder (Zentradi Officer Pod) Warhammer (Regult), the Wasp (Valkerie aka VF-01 Battroid) and several others.

My buddy has the origionals. let us know if you want to see them, he's out of country at the moment but we have the origionals.

also, check here: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN959438

Bandai made an entire series of them.

so being that the Macross saga and design of them is pretty well cut in stone, and COMPLETELY owned by Bandai outright, (who is very clear on what they consider copyright violation) why would he sculpt ANYTHING and call it a Valkeryie? thats career suicide.

CBT now as run through Catalyst, is much more lenient on sculpts and kitbashing. Bandai is not. they're pretty damn hardcore and sue happy.

and just because they are out of commercial production, does NOT mean they can't be reproduced for personal use. (fair use clause) we have tons of them (now)

Well Bandai dose own Macross, Harmony Gold is the owner of Robotech and the reason there are still unseen in Battletech. But this has nothing to do with Battletech and he said he contacted HG and hopes to make a deal.

So... What your issue with his project?

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

just the fear that Bandai would somehow stop another good idea from happening, and see another talented and enthusiastic gamer get brow beaten by big money.

Actually it's Studio Nue and Tatsunoko who own the rights to macross.

Bandai makes model kits, figures, and distributes films but they are under liscense from Tatsunoko. (Bandi owns Gundam however)

Since i'm looking to market these in the US I have to go through Harmony Gold, as they control the US based lisc and are also the reason the newer macross stuff is blocked from being imported here

I am working on models for each of the veritech configurations.

Because he is making a bunch of Robotech miniatures, in a line for Robotech, which everyone who has ever seen it knows is based on Macross. A series with an incredibly iconic Mech design. Its only logical that he would be sculpting Valkyries, there is no fething point to making a game based on this series if you only have Zentradi and no one for them to shoot at. Which is why I asked 'Yet?'.

If he was doing this for Gundam and showed a bunch of Zakus in his first post I would have asked about the RX-78.

Anyway...

Paulson, all my money when you get VF-1s.

trust me, i'm a huge Macross fan, and blocking his attempts is NOT my goal. just instilled fear over the Fasa fiasco is all. granted thats the macross/battletech/robotech debate, but still...

A few weeks ago I spoke with one of the guys at Palladium about the possibilities of working on a Robotech miniatures line. We went over a lot of costs and general ideas. They were open to the idea and want to look into things further. They did like the prototypes I'd pieced together so I was quite happy to hear that.

Tom Roache has also been in discussion with them in regard to his rules for Robotech Battles so if things go well it'll be a group effort to get something off the ground. In their March update posted yesterday Palladium publically announced that they are in fact reviewing doing a minis line (hell yes!)

● Rifts® (and Robotech®?) Miniatures. Carmen Bellaire and I also continue to discuss the feasibility of releasing a Rifts® and/or Robotech® miniatures game even if it's on a limited basis to start. Let us know whether you might be interested in such products.

● In addition to Carmen's efforts, Palladium has been approached by two different people about making a Robotech® miniatures game. We are currently entertaining the possibilities.

Original article is here: http://www.palladiumbooks.com/index.php/about-palladium/weekly-updates/589-palladium-booksr-weekly-update-march-1-2012

What they need to know is if gamers want such a product and if you'd be willing to buy Robotech Minatures should they be available. (instead let me ask who the hell wouldn't buy them???)

So please make sure to go on their forums and on facebook and leave them a comment saying hell yes I want those minis!

It's a long way from set in stone but it is very encouraging and a chance for people to express their interest. I believe a solid Robotech Miniatures game is long over due and would get a lot of notice if we can get the word out.

I've set up a facebook page to help gather support interest https://www.facebook.com/RobotechMiniatures

Please for the love of god make a Macross (SDF-1) model with the ARMA-1 platforms for arms instead of the Dadelous and Promethius , even if its only a collector model. Are you planning on baising your models right out of Robotech: The Macross Saga or are you also going to sculpt DYRL valks with fastpacks Any plans on a Armoured Valk?

Any chance of also doing Super Dimensional Calvary Southeren Cross or Genesis Climber MOSPEADA models. As I said to the other guy, if you make Cyclones and Invid, ill give you one of my kidneys.

What do you think the odds are if you obtain the Macross saga rights of also obtaining SC/GCM right to make the models. With SC you would have a lot of different mecha to make as almost each of the 15 armies of the SC had some kind of battloid mecha.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Robotech was huge when I was a kid, I am now 35 and have the cash to pay to get my childhood back for fleeting moments. If you get the rights to this it will be "Please shut up and take my money" kind of deal =o]

It sounds like his hoped-for license is purely for Robotech, so I'd assume it's limited to that (but thus also includes Southern Cross and Invid stuff as an option...)

If this pans out it'd strictly be for the series under the Robotech billing, The stuff from DYRL and later series wouldn't be able to be used as they are not a property that's able be to be liscensed in the US.

The upside is that it'd allow for the macross arc stuff, southern cross, and mospeada invid invsion arc, so there's plenty to work with.

Best of luck with Harmony Gold. I hope this works out as your prototypes are rather impressive. And if the Macross stuff sells like hotcakes then the SC and Mospeada ( my personal fav) would be a slam dunk.

I think it would be good way like another poster here said to get the 'unseen' mechs into the game. More people buying your stuff cannot be a bad thing.

Very nice!

As long as the models aren't more expensive than Battletech, I'll definitely be buying a few. My old plastic unseen aren't nearly as nice as the models you're showing.

Please, please, please Invid. Im not a huge fan of the VFs, but I would buy a couple, a bunch of Destroids, and a metric ton of Invid.

The old plastic "unseen" are fairly terrible. Well I should say the grey/silver ones. IIRC there were some made from a blue plastic/resin that were quite good. I had several Clan mechs made out of the blue stuff.
