**This event will be the SECOND in a series of Battleground 40k Invitational Qualifier Tournaments.  The Invitational will take place in December of 2012.**

RULES FOR WARHAMMER 40K TOURNAMENT

Rule Books:
The Warhammer 40,000 Fifth Edition Rules will be used.

The following is a list of legal army choices:
Codex: Black Templars
Codex: Blood Angels
Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Grey Knights
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Orks
Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Space Wolves
Codex: Tau Empire
Codex: Tyranids
Codex: Sister of Battle (White Dwarf)

MODELS AND POINTS:

1. Each player must bring an army consisting of 1850 points (but no fewer than 1825), in accordance with these rules...

2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model.

3. Unfortunately, Forge World Imperial Armor units (and army lists) may NOT be used in this event.  Forge world models may be used where appropriate, however.

4. We will require that each player submits an itemized army list to a Battleground Tournament Organizer on or before March 19th, 2012 (roughly a week before the event).  An Army Builder .pdf is preferred but a detailed text file (.txt) is acceptable.

Please email lists to ChaseLaq@gmail.com as soon as they are finalized.

5. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum,
the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition, tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt, please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.

The scenarios we will be using for the event will be the 2011 Adepticon Championship Missions. I will be choosing 3 of the 4 scenarios and may make very slight modifications to the wording such that it accurately describes our event.

The scenario packet for this event can be found here.

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you
will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you
will play a different opponent.  Each round will last 2 hours.

• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be
matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (based on the number of points they've scored) e.g., the player in first place will play the player in second place and so on. We will try our best not to pair players that come to the event together in the first round. If a player receives a BYE they will be awarded the average of the winning players points for the round.

• You will not play the same person twice.

• We will do our best to prevent a player from playing on the same table twice.

• The pairings for each round will be announced as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to
arrive at your table ready to play right away.

• Slow playing will NOT be tolerated.  Players are expected to complete at least 4 rounds.  If you suspect your opponent is slow playing PLEASE notify a Battleground staff member as soon as possible as we can not do anything about alleged slow play after the fact.

• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.

• Players will receive Results Sheets at the beginning of each round. Each results sheet must be filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once Results Sheets are completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the computer.

BATTLES:

The Fifth Edition Rulebook will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide
for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2 hours. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; all players will need to finish their game immediately, and no additional time will be provided (dice down).

We will be using the INAT FAQ for this event.

What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least TWO copies of your army list
-Rulebooks are required as are any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table

STORE CREDIT AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO:
Store credit is good for any product in the store and all subsequent events.  It never expires and will be saved for you.

Best General
Second Best General
Third Best General

Fourth Best General - Only awarded if we have 32 or more players

Best Appearance - Army
Best Appearance - Model

Players Choice - The Players Choice award will go to the player that the others feel best reflects important aspects of the hobby.  Every person will score their opponents on sportsmanship, theme, rules knowledge, appearance, and overall awesomeness.  **This award will be significant.**
Smokin' Boots - You got crushed... and you deserve an award for your epic failure.

• A note on the Appearance awards - We will award the individual who we feel has the best looking army / model. We will use a scoring rubric that looks at painting, basing, display boards, and various other "extras" to determine the winner.

• A player may only receive one award with the exception of the Appearance awards, which may be awarded to anyone, regardless of their other accolades.

The event is filling up nicely. If we retain the players we've got it's going to be an interesting event for sure.

Lots of talent on the roster right now.

Sad to say not ready yet with the new army but hopefully in time for your final qualifier. Have fun either way.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

We've only had 3 people drop from this one and filled the spots up off of the alternates list.

We should be 40 strong assuming there aren't any no-call, no-shows.

This event has a particularly competitive roster. I'm excited for it.

Awesome event!

Thanks again to Chase and the crew for running another fun, smooth, exciting and competitive event. Lovely terrain, a huge number of attendees for a one-day (and very competitive crew), clear missions. Just exemplary. Third time I've been to one of these, and each time they're just as excellent.

Critical feedback:

1. One area I've had a few issues with in the past is that some of the tables have just been a bit too open; with not enough cover, particularly lacking LOS-blocking in the middle of the table. This time there seemed to be a notable improvement in that area, and only a couple/few tables seemed like they might still have that problem. Nice work!

2. I'd really love it if the timing could be adjusted to start & finish a bit earlier. When dice don't roll until 11, even with the shorter 2:15 rounds (including the bonus deployment period you add in), we don't get finished until around 7:30. If the event started 60-90 minutes earlier, local guys would be able to get home in time to have dinner with their families, and guys like me wouldn't be rushing to make it home in time for a 10pm movie date with the wife. Just a thought. I know a lot of stores run on "gamer time" and have too high a percentage of their players seemingly unable to make an event much before noon, but with the size of and demand for your events, I'd be shocked if you couldn't still fill up while starting a bit earlier.

Thanks, Ragnar. I'm glad you had a good time.

I REALLY appreciate the feedback. It's the single most important thing I can get coming off of an event.

The Singles events definitely attract a more competitive crew. I may experiment starting an hour early for our next one.

I'm also SUPER excited for the fact that our new website will be live for the next event and we'll be able to take online registration, finally!

Battlegrounds Staff,
I thought this was a great tourney with great people. I had 3 awesome games, with very informative, patient, fair, and tough opponents. Its very rare to find 3 games in a row at a single tourney that offer that level of competition, but more importantly that level of just overall non-bitchy, fun, great games. Thank you very much to my 3 opponents, I'm terrible with names, Space Wolf player, Chaos Marines player, and Ron? The Necron player.

Great paint jobs also on a lot of armies. with no disrespect to anyone else. I gotta say many were great, but the orc player with the Red and yellow rhinos and land raiders for vehicles really really was something to look at with that "WOW" factor.

I look forward to participating in more in the future,

Thank you for having me

Congrats to the winners!

Those don't look like my numbers, though. I scored something like 42, 43, 55. Not 52, 52, 30. The total's about right, though, and wouldn't change my overall placing.

It is pretty cool. I played against henchmen razors + stormraven GK (albeit with Grey Knights and Interceptors rather than Psyflemen and Purifiers). And against Purifier-spam with three Psyflemen. My BA punched them in the face, though my Stormravens did go down fast.

This may be because the "Objective Number" was scored and totaled instead of the round number. So the green columns are "Objective 1" in each of the 3 rounds instead of the round 1 score... which would have been a lot easier to look at.

That's what I get for being lazy and not making a different spreadsheet.

As far as I can remember, GK and SW have never won our Singles tournaments.

I think Troy Esposito has finished "in the money" with both of them previously. He was unable to attend this event due to being out of state on business.

GK is fairly popular and was well represented here (5 of 36?). SW don't seem very popular in this area, although we do see them a bit more in Doubles events.

Bill who finished first has been running over people for quite some time with his daemons on both the local and GT scene. Alex Fennell needs no intruduction as most people know him. The events at BG are essentially mini 1 day GT's. You will consistently find several world class players partaking in every event as well as what is typically a roomful of high class players, playing fun, fair and honest games. They have beautiful terrain and an amazing team running the events. There is pizza and beer next door in the plaza as well which is always a plus.

Chase every event seems to get bigger and better and the competition level keeps rising and rising great job and congrats to the winners.

Well I certainly appreciate the kind words.

We put a lot of effort into these events and I can't wait to get another 25 tables and terrain for them so we can do something a bit bigger.

A loose plan is in the works to make that happen.

I played both Wolves in round 1 and GK for the silver in round 3, with Mech Blood Angels in the second round. 2 of my three games were rematches from recent tournaments which was great added spice
