Hi dakkanoughts! This is my first battle report, please be let me know what I can do to make them better in the future, because I sure intend to write some more

We are still learning the rules, so we decided to go for Annihilation to keep it simple. Looking in the rule book every thirty seconds gets old, so sometimes we just kinda wing it, but mostly the idea was to learn the right way to do things.

Deployment
Spoiler:

We deployed 12" away from table center, but at the same time, which I guess isn't right. I intentionally put my dread at the opposite end from his so they wouldn't just stalemate each other, and so I could learn to use infantry against vehicles. I tried to keep my assault marines up front but near cover, ready to find a place to ambush from. The dread, Cpt & Cmd squad, the small tac. squad, and the heavy bolters I sent around the right with the techmarine. Jhans lined up his BT's with his dread at the other end, supported by all his termies and assault marines and that darn Emperor's Champ. That left his whole left wing composed of mere tactical marines with bolters. The following game shows that there is no such thing as "mere marines".

Turns 1 and 2 got us into good position, Jhans swinging one of his tac squads wide left to flank and another up into a building, and me trying to get the drop on that beautifully painted metal dread.
As we see here:

How'd that assault squad fare against the dread? Better than nothing I suppose Lost 2 men to an unlucky dangerous terrain roll trying to drop in on him , then disabled his left arm with a lucky plasma pistol shot. Then managed to stay alive for a while and not much else, sad to say. Meanwhile, I had tried to break his center by throwing my (WIP) assault marines at the guys in the structure. Fail. Also advanced my dread and devastators into shooty range and landed a couple of wounds against his Chaplain-led tactical squad. He briefly stops smirking about his fancy BT special rules as he rolls

So, Turn 3 looked like this:

Tactical Squad II still holding! Still holding!

I hesitated to embroil more units in the melee, and so assault squad II was doomed from the start. Don't half-arse things!

And poor assault squad I is still hammering futilely away. Should have tried to use that melta bomb, but I thought the hammer had a chance. Wrong!

Which brings us to Turn 4, at which point my optimism has finally begun to fade. I think we had at least six appearances of the dreaded snake eyes, and once my command squad failed 6 armor Svs at once, only to pick up all but one with the Apothecary. My tactical boys had demolished a terminator squad and a half, and my Dread blew up *RIGHT. IN FRONT. OF THE TECHMARINE.* seriously, how traumatic is that? It would be like a pediatrician having to watch babies get run over. That's how I felt anyway. Like a run over baby.

Chaplain and gang tried about half a dozen krak grenades before one finally got through. All the way through to the part that explodes. But not a big enough explosion to kill anybody. And then he Crozius'd the Techmarine... no Invulnerable Sv for a techmarine?! Cheap! [Note to self: build terminator techmarine]

Now things might look a bit one sided so far, but take a look at his casualty shelf after Turn 4:

And then, the end.
I shot people! My dice don't always go !
So then it just became a question of how many BT's I could take down before it was over. Tactical squad I, which i had held at the back of the table for the whole dang game, was assaulted and failed morale, falling back off the table after taking a measly 3 losses. Cowards. I'll have to think up a shame badge and paint those jerks something to remember not to stink by. My Captain and command squad held on longer than I thought, mostly due to some great work by my Apothecary (Feel No Pain is my friend).

So he wiped me out entirely and I made a fair accounting for myself:
The numbers:
Spoiler:
Jhans units lost:
24 tactical
5 assault
7 terminators
and a dreadnought's arm

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed the report. I may be a bit fuzzy on the exact details here, so Jhans, don't get too upset
Please comment and let me know what I can do to improve for the next one, thanks again!

Hey, good report, just one thing, black templars don't have sergeants, they have all sword brethren. All with storm bolters and powerfists, don;t worry about it, nothing game changing in this game but just for future reference.

He was trying to explain something about that to me. Only one guy was different in the squad so i assumed it was a sergeant, my bad. Good to know for future games though, thanks Ninja.

There are some pics I've uploaded to compliment Scam's battle report. Check them out in my gallery. It was the quickest way I could think to get them uploaded before work!

Couple of comments here:
1. My Dread's left arm was completely demolished by a pissed off IF Assault Marine and his trusty Thunder Hammer, not some wimpy plasma pistol, sir!
2. I'd like to point out that despite the number of snake-eyes in this game, I DID manage to roll a 1/1 followed by a 2/2 on a 4+ to hit. That 2/2 was my RE-ROLL. Good times!

Also, his Chaplain was a pain in the ass to knock out. Terminators couldn't do it (damn dice), so the Emperor's Champion came in and finished the job.

This game was a blast! Took just about 4 hours, but the experience was totally worth it. Had no idea krak grenades would do me any good!

Looking forward to the next engagement, Scambone!

Thanks for the corrections, Jhans, I couldn't remember all the details off the top of my head.

Yeah great game, we'll get another one going soon. I like the Factoria store a lot, we can totally do another battle there.

Really nice little report, ultra sweet terrain in it.
Good pics and was pretty easy to follow the flow of the battle.

Right on, thanks Ratius. The official GW stores are great for the free to use terrain tables.

Armies and batrep look great, make sure you use a standard board length though. If each of those modular squares a 2' x 2' then you have an 8' x 4' board, not 6' x 4'. Using a normal sized board will condense the action, especially at only 1500 points. Great otherwise!

^this. this is how i roll. aaaaaaaw yeaaaah

I really like the buildings and the colour you have used on them - the paint job on the templar dreadnaught is just how I imagine them to be in "real life"

@Sumi: We used the store terrain pieces. They are pretty cool though. Yeah that old metal dread model is pretty great, he did a nice paintjob on it.
