I often see threads asking "what are henchmen?" or "How do you make X henchmen?"

I decided to show some of my minions in the hopes that others could take ideas from me and apply them to their own hobby in a cost-efficient manner. I make no claims to be a great painter or modeler, nor do I think my bases are great. My goals were to make henchmen that wouldn't break my bank, wouldn't take too long to get, are easily identifiable on the tabletop, and could be easily replicated in the future with readily available parts (IE if I wanted to make more or others wanted to make some like mine).

You can buy henchmen from GW, but it will destroy your bank account. I decided that I wanted a henchmen army and that I wanted to make them converted, no matter how much of a pain it would be. I set out on a journey and posted in a thread like this one http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/420891.page and got some great ideas for assassins!

So without further delay I present to you my minions/henchmen.

WARRIOR ACOLYTES:

I made these from Cadian troops Sergeant arms and bodies. I used "Pig Iron" gas mask heads from here: http://www.thewarstore.com/product45439.html. I used the VOXcom backpacks as I thought I could roll with a theme that all my warrior acolytes needed to be linked to the HQ on the ship orbiting the planet. Plus they look cool.

DEATH CULT ASSASINS:

Thanks again Kid_Kyoto for the great suggestions! These were made from Fantasy Wood Elf bodies (archers) and the weapons, save for the swords, were Dark Eldar CC weapon sprues form a seller on ebay. The box was $35 free shipping from GW, then $1.50 plus $2.00 shipping from Window Box, my ebay bitz seller. Not bad considering it's around 16 for two from GW.

JOKAERO:

These little guys were made from Skaven Plague Monks (Thanks again, Kid_Kyoto) with VOXcom backpacks and GK Power Armor warding staves. I had to use some Green Stuff to make sure the backpacks fit on. Each monk is about $1 from ebay. Thanks to WileytheNord for help with the warding stave and backpack idea!

CRUSADERS:

These noble souls were made from Cadian Troopers for the torso and legs, Pig Iron gas masks for the heads, Assault Squad Power Weapons for the power sword, and Space Wolf Storm Shields for the...well...Storm Shields. The capes were some sort of wolf cape from a friend but he can't remember where they are from; they had some wolf heads on them and I cut them off. You could use green stuff or some sort of space marine sgt cloak or even some fantasy cloaks I'm sure. These cost about 5 bucks for each dude all told.

So there you have it!

Again I make no claims to be a great painter or modeler, but I am pleased with the results. These were assembled and painted in a timely fashion with minimal headache once I knew where to look. The hardest part was figuring out what to use; hence my thread here in hopes that others can use what I have done as a resource for such inquisitive minds. I feel slightly dirty at sharing easy ways to make such powerful models, but humanity needs all the help it can get these days!

straightforward conversions, and the end result is nice.

Also saving some £ is never bad...

Thanks!

The blades are light blue, but are now called "Lothern blue" I think. It's hard to tell from the website what with the new paint and all.

I then washed them with Azureman Blue. I used a very large brush for this (think more a "drybrush" size brush) and drug the wash along the blades smoothly towards the tip, and tried to simulate the airbrushing effect by moving around the blotches of heavy wash. With such a large brush the wash naturally flowed onto the blades to give it that neat uneven look. Turned out pretty good I feel!

Great stuff, I am so stealing your idea of Jockero staffs, I was trying to give them big guns and finally gave up.

Love the counts-as Jokero, consider that idea stolen. Good job on all the conversions, a lot of inspiration here from both you and Kid_Kyoto.
