Does anyone have any tips/tricks they use to make these (other than buying the official models)? Buying them from the site is out of the question as I need around 15. I saw an interesting guardsman conversion on here. I hear some use Wytches. Any suggestions/tips?

I made some out of wood elfs and spare swords from various fantasy kits.





The WE kit has enough hood heads to do them up nicely.

I also found a cheap way to do Jockero!

I made mine from the Wood elves with the Dark Eldar Close Combat Weapons bits from a seller on ebay.






They look great! The equivalent from the GW website would be roughly $145; these cost roughly $40. It was $35 free shipping from GW, then $1.50 plus $2.00 shipping from Window Box, my ebay bitz seller. Much better!

I picked up some Sisters of Sigmar for this purpose.



The hammer ones aren't great for the purpose, but who can resist Nuns with Nunchucks? Buying retail probably wouldn't be the best way to go if you want that many, but they're not that hard to find used. I'm thinking though that when I'm able I may switch the ones with shields to crusaders and pick up some Menoth Daughters of the Flame to round out the actual DCAs.

My tip on this is to try with ark eldar wyches, with some conversion work on faces...

I use my 3rd edition wyches for DCA units

I'd go for DE Wyches. Great plastic kits, fit the theme perfectly.

I think that (from upper left) 2, 3, 5, 8 all have potential for conversions, although you're chopping up metal, can only buy them in the 8 pack and are working pretty hard to get what you are looking for.

I think this squad is a perfect fit if you are going mordheim:

From left,
Add a bigger shield for a crusader 1,4 and 8
DCA - 2,3
DCA if you add a second weapon - 6, 7
DCA or Crusader depending on conversion - 5

I have a ton of the first model from when I had Redemptionists in my SoB force.

My IG are based around the premise that they are raised from the Schola progenium so the priests would be battle abbots (Veterans that have joined the ecclesiarchy).

I like the look of these guys:

Redemptionists are a VERY awesome model line. Those guys are actually less cool than the original ones which are OOP.



And this guy is still in print and I REAALLY want him:

"Battle Abbot" is a great title. Or band name.

The army needs a little something special as they just look like black and red cadians atm.

We're heading OT, but find someone who plays Dark Angels. The DA upgrade sprues have a ridiculous number of Purity Seals, Books, censers, etc. Use those to spruce up vehicles and squads for a very ecclesiarchal feel or Ordo Hereticus strike force feel

Empire Flagellants also a ridiculously awesome value for personalizing an army with that Zealot-y feel.

The black templar sprues similarly have some good stuff on them, although I suspect there's a good amount of overlap there. Most of it also has the crosses on it, so might require a bit more conversion.

1 - make sure you camera is set on 'macro' (usually a little picture of a flower) this tells it to focus a foot or so out rather than the usual 10'
2 - make sure the flash is off but you have plenty of light on it (a reading lamp should do)
3 - Hold the camera with both hands and rest it on something to keep it very, very still.

And finally

4- ACCURACY THROUGH VOLUME memory is cheap, take at least 2 pictures of everything, 4 or 5 if you're having trouble. Move a bit each time.

Now you're a great photographer!

Those guys are sadly OOP and ridiculously costy on ebay. the newer versions are OK but not as cool.

You can do a decent job of making crazy robed dudes with Empire Flagellents and (believe it or not) elf archers.

Could we get back to the OT please?
