Hi All
This should probably go under lists rather than discussions, but as I don't have a list yet and was seeking a general discussion rather than definative answers thought it should go here.
When I started/restarted the hobbie a few years ago I set myself the goal of building a full infantry company, which I have pretty much done a little assemlbly and some painting but in theory i'm there. while i will always love my guard and will continue to add bits i've found myself craving a new army/project. I was originally thinky nids or tau however the other year I took part in a local competition that involved a writing background fluff for your army.
What started as a few hundred words has grown and grown (well over 10,000 words now) it covers a lot of stuff. In the fluff I make passing references to other institutions including space marines, sisters of battle and the Inquistion. So I thought for my next project it might nice to build my fluff and build small armies for all three.
I was thinking 500-750 points for each of them. I would like these armies to be fairly fluffy but unlike my guard I would actually like to plan what i'm doing first so they don't spiral out of hand.
For the inquistion I was thinking a henchman army, fits my fluff and I can use let over Guard as warrior acolytes, plus I hear they can be fairly competive at small points.
The Marines (Knights Repentant) I was thing a vanilla drop pod army maybe with dread, mainly because when ithink marines I think drop pods. It's very cinematic
The Sisters of battle (Order of the Forgotten Martyr) I have no clue I got the white dwarf with their codex but not sure where to start.
Have any of you attempted a similar project? any tips? any units you think are a must?
sorry I know this is all a little vague but would like other peoples input, if you wan to know more about the fluff I have let me know.

It's a good idea. Your fluff is rather expansive and dies have the ability to expand to contain these forces.
For SM i would go drop pods. But would kinda think about not dreads. A chaplin leading the force. Some tac marines, maybe some sternguard to represent the cream of the troops being used. Maybe some bikers, not entirelly sure. Fast recon unit with some firepower.
SoB, always a good idea. Pentitent wngies would be good. Kida annoyin they are metal. Battle sisters predominantly.
=I= coateaz and henchmen. All you need. Maybe some power armour, butbi wouldn't. An assasin would fit. Anythibg but eversor.
I'll have a bit more of a think.
Sorry for any mistakes, done fon my phone.

No dreads I wasn't thinking anything posh maybe just a riflemen, but can see your point. The Chaplin would be a nice touch as well.
Don't think i'll use the penitent engine or the sisters repentia
why no evesor?

Eversor are the crazy murderers of the offico assaninorom(sp?). Vindicares are more in line with Guard tactic, from a distance accurate fire, tanks and dudes.
You casn get Chaplin Dreads from an IA book. But the terminator armour chaplin is one of the better marines models, same with jump pack one.
You could use the Blood Angels book and do a marine army called 'Faith on Wings of Fire', a completely jump pack contingent.

Im collecting a SMALL Imperial Fist force with my Cadians. I want it to be that my Cadians work along side these guys a lot and have a good history with each other.
Like wise my force is actually 2 regiments working with each other instead of one regiment.
Something similiar to what you got

Hey Galdos
Sound very similar to the project i'm trying. My Guard, like your own, is made up of a number of regiments and I want my marines to have a shared history.
Are your marines a force in their own right or fluffy? I was thinking of taking heavy bolter because I love the look of them but know they are not the best option for a small all rounder marine force.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |

I started with Dark Angels and currently have a large Imperial Guard Force and a decent Grey Knights/Daemonhunters force and was hoping that when the new Sisters of Battle models came out to start a small army to round out my IoM armies. My gaming group is attempting to unify all our fluff and set it in our own homemade sector in Segmentum Ultima. I have set about creating links between my armies, as they all operation within the same region and are all loyal Imperium , and have them in an article on dakka dakka. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Forward_Onto_Twilight:_The_Imperial_Forces_of_the_Veiled_Worlds_Crusade

Thanks Mad Tanker, nice idea joining all your fluffs together. I will have to give the article a good read when I'm not at work.
I was really hoping they would be bringing out sisters plastics, i really don't think I can afford to do even a small army, unless I make it a supper long term project.

My project was to make a marine chapter who could fight like all their brother chapters, the fluff goes into them learning the fighting styles / methods from other chapters due to small groups of marine sbeing deployed with said chapter and learning the methods of how they wage war, thus my chapter has units from all the marine (And GK) codex's who are in their own companies.
My guard army were linked in to fight with the marines though a simple mistake on directions for the troop carrier, and from then on both armies histories have been linked and a story of them written after each battle

For sisters I'd go with a Canoness, some BSS mounted in a rhino with a few seraphims and whatever you like to taste. Pretty stranded fluffy list especially if you can add in an immolator
Also I have to comment on this: The Sisters of battle (Order of the Forgotten Martyr)
No martyr is ever forgotten for her sisters inscribe their names in the universe with blood

you got a link I love reading peoples army fluff

Sorry if i've made a big sister no no, not realy up on all their fluf. Have got a WD 381-384 but missed 380, i've also read both of James Swallows books and the audio book.
The martyr in question is one I made up for the sector in my fluff, Saint Jennifer, the reason the order refers to her as being forgotten is because she is not widely recognised else where in the imperium and her sainthodd is even debated by certain groups with the church, it was also meant to be tied in to her belief that all who perished in the name of the imperium were matyrs and nameless millions who die should be remembered as well (kind of the a tomb of the the unknown soldier type affair)
If this is a serious cannon breach let me know adn I'll have to rethink the name.
Same goes for the Marines I have planned, The Knights Repentant is a small chapter and while the do raise initiates of their own they also take in knight errant in search of redemption or repentance, so marines who have left their chapters under a shadow can be guided back to the light or a least die a meaningful death rather than fall in with the foul powers or becoming corsairs. Planning to have a chaplin as the HQ and if the force grow probably a couple.
This is all syill in the note stage so while it would be a set back to amend it I'd rather get it right.

I try to live by this but a lot of the SOB players i've met are uber serious about their fluff and I always try to work within the fluff frame work as in most cases GW is got a lot of wiggle room.

Some people can be really serious about that kind of stuff. The 41K universe is HUGE plenty of wiggle room if you ask me. I also wouldn't mind a fresh take on some new fluff especially on sob.
Sometimes you got to do what makes you personally happy rather then giving fan service to other close minded individuals. You bought the models and you paint them. You can make up whatever fluff you like

That all sounds good spanky. Liking the marije idea. The sob idea is nice. A radical idea in a clunky old religion is always good.
Also, whenever someone types sob is keep thinking it means son of a b**ch. makes me giggle.

The the marine idea came from reading books like the Salamaders/Ultramarine triolgies plus other marine fluff. never made sense to me, all the marines committing minor errors and being banished, running away or going of death walks seems like a huge waste of resources. It's sort of the French Foreign Legion for Marines.
From a modelling point of view it allows me to use any marine kit. Still not sure which rules to use, thought originally about vanilla but the knight errant thing might work well with Blood Angels, death companies could represent the Knight whose redemption can only be gained by death in glorius battle.
