I used to have a small 2k points army in '10, but I sold it for permanent resident fees for my wife...and she told me this year I can rebuild my space wolves army with my tax money...so I got my butt on ebay and started buying stuff...and buying stuff...I'm still waiting on stuff from ebay, but I got the bulk of it

Now the first order was basically 6 drop pods 40 troops and 10 terminators...and chaos marines for the wife (shocker I know) anyways the terminators weren't sent out with the original box...so they sent me another 20 troops...it was a surprise to me...specially after I already bought 2 battle forces and 2 boxes of thunder wolf calvary from my local hobby shop (I gotta give them some money too geez =p ) and I ordered $170 worth of bases from secret weapon miniatures...so here is a pic of all the stuff I have so far


EDIT: So basically...that's 8 drop pods and about 90 troops, 10 fenrisian wolves, and 6 thunderwolf calvary...still waiting on terminators, forgot to throw in the custom bases I have as well...all the bits to make my rune priests, ragnar, lukas....I have alot to do

Another EDIT: forgot to mention I have 12 missile launchers, and 10 plasma cannons as well

Alrighty...so here of so pics of the things I missed and wanted to add...first up was those bases I mentioned...they are the swampland ones from secret weapon...very nice bases, second is my ragnar kitbash, third is my dreadnought...wildly unfinished...need autocannon arms for him still and my wip TWC and last but not least, one of the boxes of fenrisian wolves

oops I think I missed the pic of my supposedly titan...was an old battletech toy...needs som washing...and I gotta get rid of some of the stuff on it...but it looks like it might be a nice wolfhound titan

Yea right now I'm clipping everything and organizing it all so I can start building...only thing I'm cleaning up is the back packs as I take them off the sprue...gw wasn't too sharp on attaching them to the sprue on the vents...hard to clean without damaging the the flare on some of them

I have a forgeworld thunderhawk with space wolves doors and accents if your interested

Are you planning water effects on those bases? Because im planning to use these for my new nid army and you can be my guinea pig =)

It works really well with water effects...but I'm gonna go snow for this one, going to mix glue and snow together and put it down, I did get some stuff yesterday, going to take a pic of what I picked up

And here is the picture...so it isn't the best...taking pics of bare metal does that and the blurryness is my fault too =p , but these are the combi weapons for my wolf guard, picked these up from chapterhouse studios, they came out really nice, had to bend one of the plasma bits though...which kinda messed up some of the detail on the side that I had to rebuild with green stuff, but other than that, I can't wait to use them....at the moment I'm still clipping up bases, still 20+ more to go...going to try and get 4 cleaned off before work...hopefully

Just another update, I got my terminators in the mail...they have all been clipped off the sprue....just 21 more sprues and I can start building!...going to try and get those finished today....after I go buy another table lamp...the base of mine broke!...not I gotta hunt up a new one

Little update...finished up ragnar...mostly just practice...he turned out pretty good though...only reason why he is shiny is the dullcoat is drying =)

He's looking pretty sharp. I like the whiter grey rather than the blue-ish spacewolf grey. And the bits of freehand look nice as well.

I'd fiddle with your camera a bit more and see if you can sharpen up the pictures though.

been busy building, sorry guys, I'll snap some pics on what I have made so far...took all day to build a drop pod...messing around with how to magnetize the pesky things, I have a rune priest made, 7 grey hunters with mark of the wulfen, melta, and banner

annnnnd 8 blood fangs, with a power fist and a wolf guard with a frost blade

So for the rest of my 1k army I need another squad of 7 grey hunters with melta gun and then 2 more squads of 5....and 4 more drop pods

But I'll get pics up tomorrow...hope you guys will enjoy the rune priest as much as I do...he's so angry looking =p

oop and the snow base is made from woodland scenics snow flock...which is alot finer and a much larger amount than GWs stuff

I just sticky tacked their heads on...so if I mess up during the painting I can just swap it out

That wolf pelt looks great! was that all washes or a bit of highlighting/drybrushing.

just washes suprisingly,
1 basecoat with bleached bone
2 wash it all over with sepia
3 ogryn flesh leaving the sepia showing along the edges
4 devlan mud leaving the ogryn wash showing a bit

I went a bit too much ogryn flesh wash so it darkened a bit too much....but it looks fine...and I can differentiate from the other pelts this way

or I should I make the pelts all the same colors to make it all more uniform? guess I'll let you guys decide for me =)

I think some variance in the pelts would be cool. Maybe have the Sgt. have that older, meaner sort of wolf-color or something.

This is looking pretty good, not sure about the Lukas model, the only reason is that he doesnt have a wolf cloak. Ragnar is looking very good. Keep up the good work

yea I know lukas isn't super looking...but he would be the only one with the cape...so I thought it could work, not a big deal to strip down since the legs are only sticky tacked on...

I will try and paint the capes in different colors, was thinking of some greys done with the same washes...no idea how that will turn out until I try it

Just a little update...no pics yet but the troops are all done for the 1k army list...mostly...I didn't put their heads on so I can paint the heads and put them on separately...incase I screw up painting one I don't have to worry about tearing it off...and now I gotta build and magnetize the other 4 drop pods...yay

Wow i must say, absolutely briliant.

I have just started my own Space Wolf Army and hopefully i can pull some tips off of your blog if you don't mind. Currently i only have a 1400 point army. i'm new to the gaming side but i've been building and painting figures for years.

Another update...I ended up ruined one of the panels on the core of the drop pod (the part where the fins connect to the top) when I drill through the back of them it seems to get too thin when I place the magnet in...then I tried to superglue, and it went through it...got glue everywheres...was more than a little annoyed, so I hopped on ebay and ordered a batch of 5...from Australia...but hell it was only 5 bucks shipped...so now I don't glue them in any more..I just dry fit them in and then glue the panels to the core, smart!

Also! I painted ragnars eyes! Just white though, makes them look all glowy and I did a bit more weathering on him, put a couple scratches on his shoulder pads...and highlighted the yellow with bleached bone as well

@Living Still- Of course I'll pop a wash on one of the thunderwolves bases and snap a pic for you...these bases are more of a swamp theme....but I'm going to paint the wood a normal color...but where it is broken I'm going to paint it like it's burnt so basically paint it your tan colors...pop a brown wash over it then paint it black at the top with a highlight of a light grey...can't wait to try it out!


EDIT @Living Still- just to let you know if you are interested in these the 25mm bases have 10 unique looks to them, the 40mm has 5 and the 60 has 1 so there is a nice variation to them...also turning them at different angles helps with this immensely as well

Those bases look AWESOME. Where did you get them from? i went hunting at Zsadists work yesterday (GW) but couldn't find them. i think they really set the cavalry wolf off perfectly and would make diaramas easier for Goden Demon too. I also need to get hold of some combi weapons for my wolf guard and i noticed you have some.

I really like the new look of the wolf pelt on Ragnar. (you need to update your Ragnar topic). i hope mine comes up just as good. i jotted down your tips.

P.S. Just looked at a bigger picture of Ragnar with the new white eyes. not sure it works bro might be just the picture but he looks kind of Zombieish?? each to their own though

you might be right about the zombie look...I'll have to try something out...maybe a wash over it or something
