What if our world and the grim dark came into contact ?

There are a couple of given facts here people, like earth=/=terra, so please don't start a polemic about that. It's a what if situation.

How would the world react ? Fight ? submit ? I would love to see Kim Il-sung reaction Along with a couple of other world leaders....

Tyranids would land on earth or we would be shown the way by the IoM. Either way at least half the world's population will die.

Unless it's the Tau, any race that we would come in contact would either destroy or subjugate us.

Hmm I was thinking more along the lines of how we would react to the Iom. The fact that tyranids/chaos/oks would just eat/kill/enslave us.... is a given

Well either we'd agree to join them or be smashed until we did.

Like so many other small worlds which imperial soldiers come into contact with, we would die horribly after fighting nobly, but futily. And that's if we're lucky. Personally I'd prefer to be taken over by tyranids rather than dark eldar or chaos. It's all bad, but atleast tyranids won't torture you for 10,000 years just for the fun of it. They eat you and its over with. God help you if some of these other grimdark crazies conquer your planet. Just shoot yourself.

Huh? Isn't "subjugate or destroy " exactly the Tau MO?

We'd be considered heretics by the IoM and treated accordingly (exterminatus).

DE would torture us all to death just for a lark,

Tyranids/Orks/Necron would just slaughter us (slower than the IoM, faster than the DE),

Eldar would probably just leave us alone, unless there were something here they want/need

Chaos would enslave us, and the ones they couldn't subjugate would be sacrificed

Tau would "invite" us to join their empire, then use us for slave labor

That about covers it?

If we join the IoM, I know I would get conscripted and die. This world would be treated like anyother conquered planet adn brought up to speed and obligated to raise Imperial Guard regiments.
Anyother Race comes, we die....except maybe Eldar, they would just watch us.

If we're lucky its a pre-HH nice primarch that finds us... otherwise = screwed

If the Imperium found us we'd end up the same as other Imperial worlds: we'd be exploited, drafted into the military, used as workers, and maybe parts of our planet set aside for holiday reserves.

What would be interesting is the reaction of our religious nutters to the Ecclesiarchy, and the type of government put in place by our new planetary governor

This world would, in almost every case, rebel or rise up in violent opposition, and be crushed utterly. Earthlings can't even agree on the topic of climate change, how do you think we would deal with an intelligent, super-advanced alien race who's very existence makes a mockery of tightly-held spiritual beliefs for a very large percentage of the planet's population?

With the Tau, we have enough people expecting aliens to be friendly that we *might* be able to join the Tau Empire... though there'd need to be some purges here on Earth before it was finalized.

The Tau, the Ork and the Dark Eldar would annihilate us utterly, no questions about it.

The Eldar? There's a lot of fantasy and sci-fi geeks who totally dig Space Elves, and I don't mean just 40K players. We'd have a good chance of getting on well with the Eldar, I think, though we'd have very little to offer them, and they would always treat us like an incredibly dim, clumsy child.

The Imperium? There'd be a massive war of faith, depopulating huge swaths of the planet, and then a totalitarian super-power, like China, would be in place to maintain control, suborned by Imperial Administratum officials to make sure things went according to the Imperium's plan.

Chaos? See above, with the addition of eight-pointed stars on the flag. Also, less-pleasant slavery and even worse utter ecological devastation.
