Alright, so it's me again, with more ideas regarding my Eldar conversions.

Some background;

So some of my earliest posts regarding this were questions about Intellectual Property and legality of casting conversion bits for Necrons molded from a Wraithguard that I would buy and break down. I learned about that, did more research, and have had quite a bit of time to fish for more ideas. In the next few weeks I'll finally have money to start my project, and so I want to get the last few questions out in time. The delay has been mostly due to saving funds for the new apartment, into which the female and I will be moving on April 1st. One of the upsides for this is that she has a bloody expensive camera, when I have no camera at all. This means that if this project goes well, I can potentially post a how-to or at least a P&M regarding the Wraithguard.

So here we go.

Question One:
I've asked this before, but never really got a solid answer. I had believed my Google-fu to be strong, but I cannot for the life of me find a size comparison between Wraithguard and Necron Warriors. Add to this the size difference between Wraithguard and Necron Immortals now. With the availability of bits for cheap on the Ebayz, it wouldn't be anything but a question of shipping time to get the legs, torsos and arms of all the Warriors or Immortals that I need. It really just boils down to which one is closer to the appropriate size, assuming that there's much of a size difference between them at all. I do find online that most descriptions state that the Immortals are in fact larger, but how much?

Questions Two:
A question regarding sculpting or converting the wraithcannon. I'm sure anyone who has looked at Wraithguard conversions has seen this picture. In this, I'm asking more for an opinion in look and ease of the conversions. Which looks more appealing? Which do you think is more worth the effort?

As far as I can work out, that looks like the old Necron gauss rifles, converted. This is an alright option, but it's now more difficult to get the older ones. On the other hand, I saw these:

The tesla carbines look nearly perfect as a base model for the wraithcannon, and currently hold my favour. The downside VS the gauss rifles, however, is that the carbines come in 5's, rifles in 12's. I need 20.

So there it is. From this point on, I will be addressing any further questions or thoughts to this thread in particular until I get a P&M set up in the next week or so, after my fiancee moves in and I get access to her camera.

PS - Question Three:
If anyone knows of any sites that offer viable conversion bits for Eldar in general, I'd appreciate a heads-up. Thanks!

I made up a conversion a while ago and have been revisiting my desire to make a Ghost Army out of the new Immortals, specifically using the Tesla Carbines for the base of the gun and adding bits to make it more Eldar-ish.

Bear in mind that this is only a mock-up, a kind of trial conversion to see if I could do it and not a final product. As you can see, the Warrior is slightly shorter than the Wraithguard, but only because I extended the torso somewhat with a coil of crafting wire. He'd normally be 2-3mm shorter. If you're using green- or brownstuff to clean them up, you can bulk up the joints a little like I did here.

IMHO, the Immortals will make for a better conversion. I thought about using Lychguard, but the body style is too different and might pose some problems trying to achieve the Eldar aesthetic.

As far as bits go, that's a tough call. Hoard o Bits on Ebay are pretty good, Red Dragon on Ebay I've had some delivery issues with, but usually have good variety. There's Battlewagon Bits through the Warstore, but they are lacking in variety.

I'd check Bartertown and the Dakka Swap Shop, along with your local gamers to work out trades for what you need. There's usually tons of leftover bits from aspect warriors, war walkers, and wraithlords sitting in the bits boxes of eldar players who are less converting-friendly.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

The Immortals are the closest in size to the Wraithguard. However Wraithguard are very tall and Lychguard may be better for getting that effect. Immortals are more squat than Lychguard and less graceful looking.

If you straighten out the legs, they'll look taller. It seems that every 40k model is taking a half-squat.

Perhaps they all need the toilet? A Necron doing a wet metallic lump is a bad mental image.

I think with making units like this you do need to aim as close a possible but be aware that you won't get it exact. You will then be more pleased with the outcome.

Oh, I'm pretty aware. What I intend to do is create conversion bits to attach to the guns, as well as a personalized style of the Wraithguard head and feet/lower legs. I then plan to cast moulds of those pieces, and cast them to get a uniform style. Each will likely be posed custom to a degree. And yeah, the Praetorian/Lychguard legs are looking nice.

As a note, I don't mind the bent legs. It gives them a more... mobile appearance, rather than the rather vacant poses of the standard Wraithguard. If I use Immortals due to size comparison, I'm sure people won't mind them being a few millimetres shorter due to dynamic stances when they see more than three poses.

Update: So I took the plunge and purchased some bits for the first 15 wraithguard last night. I decided to go with the Immortals, and grabbed some torsos and weapon arms on sale. I also order a single wraithguard model from my flgs, so when that gets in, I'll have a piece to scale mine against.
