Hello all! I just recently got back into modeling and painting again with the hope of fielding an army soon. But we all have to start somewhere so here's the first mini I've sat down and painted in a very long time. Granted I wasn't very good before but I'm hoping this is at least a decent start. Please forgive the picture quality and lighting, I plan to take better pictures of better models in the near future I painted this guy with paints from a Testor's model starter kit to get used to mixing and thinning my colors again and I think he turned out "not-half-bad"

Constructive criticism is welcome, non-constrictive criticism will be read and then later explained at length to my therapist!!

Looks really nice and clean.

A couple things I would do is base the figure. I think it will really make the figure look a lot better than just a plain old base (just my preference).

It looks like you may want to use a wash over the model which will make it look a lot more detailed without much work.

Thats a nice solid base-coat. A bit of ink painted carefully into the crevices and then a solid highlight around the edges and he'll really pop!

And also, as mentioned, finish the base!

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Thanks for the input! I'll be doing the basing here in the near future once I finally decide WHAT to base with, and after I've got a couple more finished minis. (I have an old container of instant grass base stuff but I'm looking for something a little more dynamic)

Do you have any recommendations on a good wash? Also any tips on improving the eyes or just painting eyes in general?

I usually just go with a black wash but a brown wash is nice to it just depends on the colors (on this I would personally use a black). How I paint my eyes is paint the area the color you want and no matter what I always get paint where I don't want it so I just clean it up afterwards.

Clean and simple is the motto I live by and yours is definitely clean. Perhaps a layer of wash and the mini would look fantastic.

So it's day 2 of bringing my old army back to life as BA. Most of the infantry are waiting to be re-posed and re-armed while I've got the vehicles soaking to be stripped of their hideous paint job. Anyway, today I got my girlfriend to sit down and paint with me Surprisingly, she enjoyed it a lot. Last night I handed her a box of body parts and told her to pick what she liked and we'll put it together and paint it up so she got to work on the guy in the first picture while I started on the other marine. Also I can't paint flesh to save my life so there's that. But I'm working on it!

Disclaimer: They're still un-based and un-washed and I'll be doing that once I have my list prepped and I know what all I'll be fielding. They're also missing backpacks for now. Also still no lightbox or light-tent so the picture quality is poor, but I'll be putting one together this weekend.

And just as an off-topic question: How does a Furioso Librarian stack up compared to normal Furios and DC Furios?

Looking great bro!
and to answer your question, it all depends really.

Librarian:
Good for higher point games, put probably the worst of the 3.

Normal:
Great as an all rounder. Can get good shooting upgrades, and can also get good CC ones (blood talons).

DC:
Close combat monster. Ignores 1s and 2s on the vehicle damage table, 1 higher front armour value, has fleet and furious charge. However, you need Death company to field it, and it also suffers from rage.

Your painting is clean give then a wash in black and then a little highlight and they will be great. Keep it up, your work is very good!!

Just forgot what I was going to say.

This doesn't belong in Showcase. Sorry, it needs to be based to be allowed here.
