Subject: Ideas for modeling 'chaos' spikes?

Hey DD,
I took a look at the picture below and, apart from being blown away by the awesomeness of the model, I was curious about the number of spikes used in it. I want to do something similar with my chaos vehicles but I don't know where to get that many spikes from. My bits bag will probably accommodate one rhino's worth of mismatched spikes but is there a simpler and better solution I'm not thinking of? Somewhere to buy some plastic miniature size-appropriate spikes or a way to make them easily, other than trying to carve them out of left over sprues?
Thanks for any help you can be guys

Looks like normal rhino spikes but he cut them off a bit. I've done the cutting up sprues thing and it's not so bad once you get a system down. Also, cutting up plasticard into jagged spikes of metal... but all of that is better for more jagged spikes that work better as a ram. its hard actually because if you get like spears or something, or just plasticard, or wire, you still have to drill holes to get them to glue on properly and it's a pain. So I'd say it really depends on what kind of spikes you're going for.

I might try this. Some uneven/jagged spikes might look nice actually and fit better with a chaotic theme. Do you have any advice on cutting from sprues?

If in doubt, BBQ sticks and some greenstuff for the spikes.

I got a pic up of the rhino I used sprues on in my gallery, you might get some ideas from it.
The sprue is a little bit wider on one side, so I just make on cut on the top and down, and then the two sides of it to make it sharp... if you can understand that it's hard to put into words Also it's a lot harder without a sprue cutter. With a sprue cutter you can make the cuts really fast and then just sand/whittle a little bit with the hobby knife and you're good to go.
If you grab some spears get the wargames factory ones, they are mad cheap and you can get them on ebay. Then I would grab piece of sprue and drill little holes into it, that way you don't damage your model and they are sturdier. Toothpics are a great idea too though.

get thick plasticard. Make spear-shapes and cut them all out, then file them down so that the base is round, and the pointy end looks like its supposed to be a pointy end. I'ts more like than no going to be a lot of work, so once you have 5-10 finished, create a mould and make more. Otherwise, it really only looks like the fellow went and cut up the fency bits from the CSM vehicle sprues.

Doesn't the chaos accessory sprue come with a ridiculous number of spikes? Ask around locally, most chaos players I know have more spikes than they know what to do with.

yes and no. Once you start buiding terrain with them, it turns out they are in comically short supply.
