Hi! I've started the work on a brand new model of a tank! It's based on a tank model from multiplayer online game called Tunnelers. I am working on this game as a graphic designer and game designer. I realize, that my spacemarines could stand near this model of a tank and it may be quite interesting. When you want to look at the project, view http://www.tunnelers.com. I'll update this thread with WIP images of Kobold tank. It's not entire w40k, but it is somehow related and maybe some of you can get some new ideas.

The mission is this: Transform a plane 1mm styrene white plate to full color model of Kobold tank. Like from this:

When the base design of whole tank will be done, I will ad some details. I wonder the tracks will be covered with mud/rocks at the end.
Size of model will be around 12-15cm.

Huge top fan prepared for mount (but nowhere to mount yet ). Base of a turret at left side.

the fan looks quite good... that must have taken agaes to cut and assembly...

turret is shaping up interestingly too!

Unfinished base of the tank turret. I have to simplify the shape of the turret a little Barrel will be on right side.

looking good together already...it is already quite recognizable!

Front side of the turret end up as spikes made with triangles. More complex shapes was a little difficult to put together without gaps.

how do you get those shapes anyway? do you have the patterns from the game design 3d sketches? because all those triangles are all complicated shapes to get right...

Complicated was assembly 4-side polygons, because of that (and after some trials) I chose triangles. For some parts I have a 3D model where I am picking distances. This part was done without 3D model.
At first, assembled opposite triangles and glued them. And then fill the other triangle holes.

well this sounds quite complicated...but i guess whatever does the job, eh?^^

Like i said, barrel implemented! So we can shoot now, muhahahahah

No worries i shall after my move is complete. I too have scratch built a few metal monsters

why did you go for a rectangularly barrel? your design shows a bore tubelike barrel with some thingies at the sides???

Hmmm, now he has a version with Plasma

ok...for a plasma gunbarrel this might be a good choice^^

Exactly! In the game, the tank shoots plasmatic shock pulses (something like EMP) instead of normal steel ammo. And it's much easier to put together (for me) as rounded shape barrel.

Well, if you got the GF-9 round tube plastic, rounded barrels would be easier.

well i am assuming he currently has no tube plastic...so this is a fair handling of the project then!

Exactly so!, Just hinting that for future projects, either the tube stocks, OR old pens that the ink is done, or dried out, the plastic tube boddy is also usefull, that was what I used to make my first Vanquisher barrels on my Leman Russ tanks!

also felt pens are nice too... thicker material is also adding to the look!

Yep, and you can also build it up at the base or mantlet to make a tapered barrel look for such a barrel.

well in my scratchbuilt box i have quite a nice collection of old pens with some nice features on them... it is always a good idea to see stuff from a modlers point of view^^
