It's been a long haul with regards to my painting and purple. I've been throwing around various ways of painting, shading and highlighting over the past few months [although it is nothing spectacular compared to some here!]

I would appreciate any and all comments, criticism and biscuits. Please ignore the aesthetics of the physical model, I was using a post-heresy suit for painting purposes.

Thanks!

Really nice, smooth paintjob. Was going to whinge about the armour, but then I read the entire post.

If this is tabletop I'd be excited to play such a well painted army

Very nice, clean, solid paint job showing a variety of techniques well executed. But it's not very dynamic. (i.e. too much of it is basically the same, uniform shade of purple). You might look into some wet blending techniques (assuming you aren't using an air brush) in order to deepen the shadows, lighten the highlights and blend the in-betweens.

I solid model, to be sure and although you've made a note about why you used this armour, I still feel I have to have a gripe about it. I just feel there's plenty of ways you could at least try and make post-heresy armour resemble pre-heresy armour, but hey, it's your model so...

The paintjob is nice, although as mentioned, it does seem a tad flat to me. Also, is that a blob of static grass on his chest-plate?

I'm confoosed.

@BlapBlapBlap

Thank you, good Sir!

@Gitsplatta

I agree. I've been speaking with finnan quite a lot on the subject of shading and I think for the next test model I shall run with a dark blue basecoat to lift the purple and provide more definition in the shadow. It's also a point that I need to work on generally overall, shading has long caused me to pull out hairs. As for wet-blends; perhaps a very, very subtle lightening of the purple towards the end stages of applying the thin coats, in consecutively smaller areas?

@Brother Axel

I'm not sure if you understood. Ignore the physical model, it was the only non-painted model I had to hand at the time. My actual army, once decided on painting technique and colour, will be FW heresy Marines. That's a negative on static grass. It looks a little funky from the angle but it's half a defiled Aquilla.

Looks great man. I would do a little more gold maybe on the backpack. Childern were known to be one of the most garesh of the chapters. Fulgrim loved all the best the galaxy could offer.

Just forgot what I was going to say.

That should solve the problem... or at least get you most of the way there.
