Piercing the heavens

A good friend of mine, who's basement we use for gaming night, owns a store for artists supplies and just recently expanded. Now he sells a lot of different tabletop miniatures and such. The last gaming store closed over 3 years ago and I can not tell you how much fun is it to finally have shelfs full of awesome minis to look at and spend money in a store again. I'm so happy that I felt it was time to try out something new. I've been playing waaaay too much 40k these past few months and decided to try out a new system. Several new systems in fact. You know, Gamer ADD and all that.

I first came in contact with HORDES sometime around 2008, after playing WARMACHINE for a year or so. And while I really dig a lof of the stuff from Everblight and Oberos, I was always partial to Trollbloods. I bought a bunch of models, some of them just days before the old gaming store closed. After the 40k Overkill I had in the last few months I decided to get back into Privateer games and thought I'd give Hordes another try, since I haven't really played that one yet. Well, actually I'm giving it more than one try, but that's a story for another blog. I already have a few trolls, but I never got around to play with them.

I've bought a starter box (even though I find the models in it a bit lame in comparison to the rest) and a few more models. I painted two Scattergunners and Grim Angus in the classic Troll blue and the green and brown clothing served as a really nice contrast, you can check them out below.
Then Privateer unveiled the Mountain King and someone in that thread wrote this:
scarletsquig wrote:Would look great painted up in a lava colour scheme.
And now I can't get the idea of a fire based troll army out of my head. The Pyre Troll is one of my favourite models and I kept thinking if the regular Trollkin would look good in red. So I photoshoped a bit:

I'm still not sure if I should really go for it. I really like the idea of more a red hot (pun intended) Troll force and I'm sure a volcano Mountain King would look awesome, but I'm also worried if that would take away too much of their character. Plus, the based fit really well with my Cygnar troops and a hypothetical Orberos force I have planed.
Let me know what you think about my idea and my old Trollbloods you can see below.

Probably my favourite model of the bunch so far.

Just had a game with my brother. Grim Angus with an Earthborn, an Axer and a Pyre Troll against the Butcher, 3 Man-o-Wars and two heavy 'Jacks. It was 'Jacks vs. Beasts for most of the game, but I had a great assassination moment: He put a damaged 'Jack between the Butcher and my Earthborn. I wrecked the 'Jack with the two smaller beasts, shot the Butcher with Angus and my Troll could charge 10 inch over the wreck right into him. Add the insane power of the Butcher's axe and he was history.
