so im build some scarabs swarms for my new necron army and i had a idea..
use magnets to hold the scarabs down and remove them as needed so i used some of my old toy from when i was a kid(magnetix i think)
i started use then and got a base done and thought they were a bit weird so i decided to ask dakka dakka what they thought...
so here are the pics
i used the magnetic card and just cut them down to size.
there sticky one side so no glue is needed
the glow in dark stick is what they look like with the magnets out of them

My only question is why would you need to remove all of them?

They could be useful for tracking wounds.

Great idea but I don't think you've executed it in the best way.

When you come to base those models, with sand or texture paint or whatever, your magnetic paper will stop working.

I would have been temped to use much smaller magnets, and magnetised the small rods that the scarabs are meant to go onto. You would never have to remove the last one though, so you could leave one glued on the base, and have the other two removeable as wound markers.

To summarise:

Awesome idea

Poor execution thus far

I am currently taking commissions.

Best way to do this would be to buy a rare earth magnet set from miniwargaming.com . Get the smallest set. It comes with a drill bit that fits the magnet size. Drill a small hole in bottom of scarab and put a magnet in flush. Then put the other magnet on the base. Build up the basing material around the magnets to hide them. cool idea though. Good luck!

Since you insist on comments here is mine;

The use of several exclamation-marks, coupled with the use of "1337-speek", is a sure sign of a lesser mind.

On topic; smaller magnets would look better.

I could see that, but you should only magnetize two of the three, as there is no reason to remove the third. You'll also have to do this for only one base, as it's rather rare to have more than one scarab base take a wound.

He could just base it with the magnets attached, so that the bare plastic is still there where the magnets pop down.
