About a year ago i dug out and dusted of the old warhammer box from my childhood and immediately decided it was time to start it aaaallllllll over again
It's not much of a offering as of yet, its very much the first time i've ever tried to paint anything so any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!

(also any ideas for banners would be awsome, i really can't settle on anything atm)

Pretty decent collection and paint job. Maybe you could come up with a symbol for the banners...they look rather plain.

the camo looks good, but I agree too - perhaps instead of gold you could go with black or grey, It would fit the scheme better IMHO

Over-all very nice! I can see that a lot of effort has gone into painting all of the models up. I do have to agree though about the point made about the gold.

I love the scheme! i actually agree with the gold trims as most marine chapters find camp cowardly and just wanna tank it. i like the mix of tank style and scout style

For ideas for the banners you could try looking at modern military symbols and iconography.

Something like this maybe:

yeah.. when i first started i really wanted something less fantasy and more realistic... but as i got a little deeper into the mythology i couldn't resist a little bling, then a lot of bling and so forth.

NoBaconz4You - oddly, after looking though scores of warhammer icons and i the like it never crossed my mind to look at something currently existing, so thanks!

Also what's the point of banners at all. Just dosent befit the camp theme.

And as for astarties tanking it make them loyal descendants of Alpha Legion.

Just my 2 cents take it or leave it

The camo works well enough on the vehicles, but I'd say the pattern on the troops should be scaled down. From arm's length, it looks as is you've simply mismatched the green on random plates. I think a finer pattern applied more evenly would more effectively convey the intended scheme, as well as being more attractive.

Nice job but cut the gold and banners really don't work on a camo job.

Good news! I'm having a rather unsuccessful attempt at striping these models and as a result im willing to let anyone that wants them have them all for free! You will just have to sort out any postage etc.
PM me if your interested, but if i get loads of people asking then ill split things down, so let me know what in particular you want, just incase!

There's also a load of orks (roughly 20 boys, 6 nobs, some warbkies, 3 choppas and an old style killer kan), all reasonably well painted (better than the marines anyhoo!)

Shame you went as far as trying to strip them, they looked fine to me. Besides, you being happy with them yourself is what counts, who cares what a bunch of dingbats online think.

You could've just as well made up some fluff/lore about why your chapter used a combo of camo and gold. Maybe the camo was necessary eons ago, afterwards the chapter stuck with it but now are adding gold for some reason. Imagination's the limit.

I said this in another thread, but here goes... ask enough people and eventually every little detail of your model/army/anything will have dislikes. Nothing you ever do is going to satisfy everyone, so better just to tune out their opinions.

Real shame. Hope you stay with the hobby and don't give up entirely.

thanks johno but its only because i've gotten slightly better over the past few months and they remind me of a time i didn't really care enough, so its on to better things! Plus i've never been much of a gamer personaly, so they just kinda sit there looking a bit naff. Its sad to see them all go but its time for a fresh start!

they looked cool you did really well to finish that many models. I have played a lot of games against people who's army's are only half painted. Don't give them away for nothing? Sell them on ebay use cash to buy more and paint them any colour you want enjoying what you do is the main thing.

just a quick one to say the mini's have all gone, off to finally go kick some arse, as the emperor intended (or melted into puddles of goo and used to base up some chaos deamons slime filled melting pit, who knows!!)

Well your camo marines looked alot better than mine. I actually like the color choices, and as far as why camo with gold trim...

Why do people give scouts camo pants when they're 75% bright red/blue/yellow/green etc?

I did however catch a lot of off comments at the game store for my camo marines. To make up for it, and to irritate those who made those comments I came up with a custom chapter name.
Since they originated from the Imperial Fist chapter but now use Raven Guard doctrines. I named them the "Imperial Guard" chapter of the Space Marines.
Caution some game store people get extremely upset by that joke.
