This is my first attempt at painting a marine. I hope you like it.

Very clean, I like the tone of the red you used and green eyes.

Nice job looks very tidy. Nice shading and metalics look good.
Not sure about the eye lenses though. I think they look a bit to colourful, not menacing. IMO.

I think your BA Tactical Marine is nice, basic units don't need too much pop. With 9 more they would look pretty good as a squad.

If I can make a recommendation. . . a couple of pebbles on the base would add something unique to all of them while keeping them all the same. Just like a grenade, gun pouch, or knife on the armor. Just something to mix them up but keep them uniform.

The Good: 8,000
Ultramarine, Scouts, Blood Angels, Dark Angels
The Bad: 8,000
Chaos, Daemons, Dark Eldar, Orks

Thanks for your advice, I agree with you. For the first one I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, but I'm intending to paint the rest of the bunch with different color schemes and different bases.

Nice subtle highlights on the red, and the gold is really nice and smooth. Care to share the recipe??

Of course:
I basecoated the golden parts with "English Green Gold" from Adithes' Kokolo range (see attached picture). Vallejo's "Metal in alcohol base" is virtually the same product. Then I washed them with a mixture of 1 drop distilled water + 1 drop Tamiya smoke + 1 drop Tamiya clear orange and finally I highlighted them with the gold basecoat.. I hope you find this useful.

It looks well, the dry finish suits the model well, if you dont mind me asking, where have you gained your painting experience, outside of Marines?

I have painted some 25-30 mediaeval-themed figures: chainmail, swords, axes, etc. The first ones were poorly painted with humbrol enamels. I just can't imagine how I managed to do it!. Now I use Vallejo Acrylics almost exclusively, they are so much fun to use.

I'm definitely, like everyone else, diggin on your metallics. I would like to see some Chapter/squad iconography on those shoulder pads though. I must say, your mastery of shading is extreme. Your color choices have the muted matte consistency of the armor that I really like, while maintaining a good level of distinction on the areas that matter. My only real area of complaint is the purity seal. While I understand that you couldn't use the traditional red for the wax, due to the color scheme of your marine, I think that using the baby blue didn't work out so well. I might try switching up the color for the wax seal in the future. Other than that one thing, this model looks amazing!

Nex time I paint a red armor, the purity seal will be very dark red or even purple.
Being the first marine I was painting, I didn't want to use decals on the shoulderpads, as I don't feel confident about applying them with a brush. I have just ordered an airbrush and a compressor online, so next time I will be using the gloss varnish/micro set/micro sol/matt varnish method.
Ironically, the metallics are the easiest part of this little project, I'm glad you're digging them. I explained the method above, just try it!
