The Peripheral

Right, if you are unaware, in another thread we're discovering that Dakka Dakka has quite the army. This one to be precise: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/90/451180.page#4327803

At the time of this post, if we go everyone involved who actually have posted on that thread, we'd have a game of around 800,000 points. It's interesting enough, but now what do we do with this ridiculous amounts of points? We run a campaign with it. It shall be a glorious war over the only system capable sustaining the wrath of so many factions, generals, demon lords, and warbosses at one time; Aka'Daka.

Aka'Daka is located only a mere 1000 light years away from the heated Octavian War, and as such there are many Orks already living here with hundreds of thousands of more tribes arriving every day on their journey to join in the great WAAGH there. Long quarantined by the Inquisition for a history of unstable warp space and frequent warp rifts the entire system has only recently drawn the attentions of the Imperium due to a mysterious signal coming from the largest planet of the system, Aka'daka Prime. Upon further inspection, it was found that Aka'Daka is a tomb world for the Necrons, and its signal only heralded its awakening. Those imperial agents that survived a raid by the Dark Eldar pirates in the area spoke little of the horrors upon the world, other than that of the dred forces of Chaos were there as well, aiding the sentient machines in their search for an artifact in the system rumored to be so powerful it could change the course of the Octavian War to the will of whoever wielded this so called device.

In response, total war has been declared by the Administratum upon this system, and with it has come the blessing of a crusade by the Eccelesairchy. Imperial officials believe that it is paramount to not only secure this mysterious artifact for their own use against the neighboring war, they believe that by securing the system in a purifying fire they may also be able to launch a counteroffensive into the Octavian War from this system. It seems in the call to such a war, the entire Imperium has come to answer as millions flock to the once quietly quarantined system, bringing with them both allies, and other xenos threats. The Tyrands of this system are disconnected from the greater Hive Mind embroiled in a full fledged war with the Orks in the Octavian War. Oddly, it seems that hostile activities between the two races have ceased for the time being as the Imperium approaches and officials believe that the forces of Chaos are to blame for the splinter fleet's co-operation. The Eldar have long watched this system and already know what lies beneath the earth they sorely wished had remained undisturbed by Ork activity, for they hold responsibility for not only the artifact's creation, but also its imprisonment to the system, for if it were to be freed by the ignorant, its power could overwhelm the entire galaxy.

Ambassadors have been sent far and wide in a call for aid, and have proven to be successful, for the Tau have eagerly answered their call with the false promise of Eldar warp technology, and, though with considerable lackluster, the Imperium has agreed to a ceasefire between the xenos races, at least until the greater enemies have been annihilated. However, whatever politics are involved with both factions, it is clear that time itself is their greatest enemy, for the flames of Octavian War are spreading quickly towards the Aka'dakka system. Already sensing the buildup of biomass in the Aka'dakka system it has become blatantly obvious that the Hive Mind views the system itself paramount to its position against the Ork Waagh it is already fighting. In only a years time, a tide of Orks skirting the movements of the fearsome ocean of Tyranids will arrive in full force, sounding the final hour of all involved should the system still be so utterly divided. Only the total and complete obliteration of the enemy will ensure that the survivors stand a chance in the onslaught that is fast approaching.

Setting:

Aka'dakka is the fifth of seven planets from its sun, Kanak II.

The other planets are in order from closest to furthest away from Kanak II -

1. Dak-Kak, a molten and volcanic world rich in metal and other natural resources.

2. Gakka I - A hellish world of both scorching deserts and deep swamps - and coincidentally of much interest to the Adeptus Mechanicus as to how such a strange ecosystem can exist... It is a firmly Ork held world and must be retaken at all costs should the system be cleansed.

3.Gakka II - An ancient Imperial world whose name is lost to antiquity, little is left of the sprawling ghost town of a hive world than whispered tales of sinister cults that worship both the dead and daemon's alike by consuming their flesh. Contingents of Sisters of Battle have been sent here at the forefront of the planet's liberation, and have already discovered that the agents of Adeptus Mechanicus can easily repair, rebuild, and even revitalize the entire planet should the Imperium hold it long enough. Should this happen, the forces of the Imperium would be able to quickly resupply throughout the entire system. As such the forces of destruction conspire to take this planet and deny such an act from occurring.

4. Kad-kad Rakka - The Chaos bastion amongst the system. Although considered weak by most Imperial standards, it should by no means be underestimated. Dark sorcery is rife here, inciting demonic incursions all across the system seemingly at random. Portals have been recorded on every planet disgorging anything from disheveled ranks of corrupted Imperial Guard, to torrents of blood and filthy miasma's to full blown demonic armies spilling from the warp. The forces of Chaos also seem to have a bond with the awaking Necrons throughout the system and with their technologies have been able to completely halt the advance the forces of Order upon Aka'Daka. What relatively few forces of Chaos are currently in the system it is already been made painfully clear that if the Imperium wants to secure Aka'daka, they must first subdue Kad-kad Rakka.

5. Aka'dakka is primarily a temperate rain forest world, and is covered in ancient ruins of both Necron and a now extinct human culture known as the Kunuk, origin. There is currently little else known about the planet due to xenos interference in its many resonance crystals that dot its mist shrouded landscape.

6. Gakanaka - The Adeptus Biologis and Ordos Xenos were stunned when they received the news of the strange symbiotic relationship between the Orks and Tyranids upon this death world. What had apparently been a previously consumed world by a prior visit from the Tyranids, had been recolonized by Ork spores on a fallen comet. The few ripper swarms that remained behind from the previous invasion ate the growing hordes of Orks and began sowing a new population of Tyranids. However, due to the influence of Chaos and its distance from the Hive Mind, the fundamental nature of the Tyranids on this world had changed from carnivorous to parasitic. The Tyranids instead formed bonds with the Orks, slowly consuming them as a disease would, allowing them to literally farm the necessary biomass whilst only weakening the Orks, not killing them. Deemed necessarily to the war effort, the forces of Chaos have forced the local tribes of Orks to make the sacrifice of a few members of their tribes to continue the feral Tyranid swarm. However, it remains to be seen how long this pet swarm will remain loyal to the cause as the greater Tyranid fleets approach and reconnect them with the Hive Mind.

7. Hakad - The outermost planet of the system, it is little more than a mountainous ball of ice and frozen wastelands. What lies beneath however is a great prize the Eldar wish to keep secret even to their allies, and loyally defend it to the death. It will undoubtedly be the site of the heaviest friction between the forces of Order.

So we have the fluff, now for the rules:

Campaign Rules:

*Planets are divided into only a handful of large regions. Each region is divided up into countless battlefields with the general topography of their home planet.

Each planet works much in the same way as WAR Online. As the battles occur in the regions of the planet, they are essentially trying to vie for its control by stacking the results of their battles with the rest of their faction in the area. The numerous battles compile into a war report for the region, with each victory and defeat, participants will decide the fate of a single region on a planet at a time. Each region that is taken by a force becomes that faction’s and is immediately immune to further attack. The region adjacent to it becomes contested and if it is lost, then the region they just secured again becomes contested until one faction pushes the other from the planet. Because I’m not particularly good at art, web design, or programming, these maps will be strictly linear and will resemble a sort of tug of war style of game play. Eventually, after what will likely be a very long struggle, every region on a certain planet will eventually fall to a certain faction and will become solely theirs. Then in the larger game, the same, slower yet far more powerful tug of war becomes apparent as each faction attempts to secure landing zones on neighboring planets.

To invade other planets held by other factions, a formal declaration must be made by a team captain, representing the intentions of the entire faction to act together to take a planet. As such, the very first battle must be played as so:

Apocalypse Level Planet Strike mission

+ A force of at least 5000 points must be used on both sides.
+ To secure a landing zone, the assaulting force must win a decisive victory.

Since this a forum wide campaign, this battle will be much in the same as the rest and will be repeated many times over during this cycle. The more games you play, the more you will aid to you faction’s favor.

After this initial battle and the results allow for the assaulting force to make a landing on the planet the regions are divided as such: ¼ to the assaulting force, ¾ to the defenders. This is merely for balance, allowing the assaulting teams to a relatively enjoyable presence on the planet so that they have a chance to continue the push, but simultaneously allow for the defenders to have a considerable home team advantage.

As w'eve seen previously this war will be fought by those who have posted in the previously mentioned thread, as their points have already been accounted for.
It will be largely a war between Order and Destruction, but not limited to these options. You may, if you choose, fight battles with people who have not posted on the "Battle For Dakka Dakka" thread and do not need to count their points, but of course encourage them to add to the list and become more official if they wish. We suspect that this will be the majority of the battles fought, so here's how this will work regardless of who you play:

Declare your battle (name it if you wish, but say which region and on what planet) - who it involved and why (this is really important if you're fighting within your faction) - what you're fighting over (see list below) - mission(s) used - how many rounds you played - Result: who won and by how much. If you don't do this as your summary we can't count the battle and will only assume that it's results were lost in logistics or the messengers were intercepted and killed. Therefore, please, if you want this campaign to run smoothly, add those elements, and only those elements to your battle report. If you want to post a full battle report, that's fine, just don't do it on this thread, we only need the abridged versions please.

This is how a battle report on this thread should look like:

Slaughter of Blood Orchid Field, Gakka II - Black Templar's Vs. Imperial Guard, Inquisition Deemed IG overstepping their authority in their duty to the Emperor and ordered them purged. - Black Templar's are trying to exterminate the IG (survival) - DOW - 1 round - Result: IG victory -narrow victory- IG lives to fight another day.

Remember that these battle reports are based solely on the honor system, however, I don't necessarily trust any of you so my Inquisitorial agents request that if you are as fanatical about this campaign as your own soldiers by battling day and night and posting a considerable amount of battle reports over a short amount of time, we request that you also attach a link to a true full length battle report, (including photos!) to your every third post. We may, also randomly ask you for a full fledged battle report even if you only post once. If you cannot comply to these terms, you will face a trial of your peers and if found guilty, be hanged, dragged through the streets, and your entire army destroyed. In addition, you will be forever immortalized as a cheater and put upon a special forum thread I hope I never have to create, a wall of shame I have not really thought to name yet, but I shall have the Chaos Gods themselves lament in your tortures as Dakka Dakka itself curses and humiliates you!!

Finally, this campaign will last exactly one year and have 52 cycles and therefore 52 chances to aide your faction before the arrival of the Octavian War. There will be many surprises and twists that contribute to the story line. We (more than likely I) will do our best to keep track of the results, you simply do your best and play the game and have fun.

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Comments on what could be improved or changed?
