Subject: My first ever 40k Models (Updated!)
|
 |

Hey guys! I just started 40k a few weeks ago. I actually haven't played a real game at all and started simply because I loved the models
Here were a few cool-looking and more or less cheaply priced units I bought. I have a thing for tanks and armor more than the little guys, but as I'm thinking of actually playing soon, I'll be getting all sorts of kits. I do plan on having some small and inconspicuous regiment markings of my own. Perhaps a few small colored stripes along a side along with a number.
Let me know your thoughts!
Been updated with some Orks I got (simply because they look cool. I'm planning on getting a bigger IG army!) and the regiment markings/numbers. Lucky 7's!

Just started he says. Really, these are great. I must know how you got that yellowish brown. As for regiment markings, perhaps white numbers to indicate the regiment? Different numbers of red stripes to indicate squadrons would be cool.

All I know is I want to have an army of Krieg from Forgeworld sometime and give them the number "13". I want these guys to be lucky ol "7".
And I was thinking of two small stripes (I saw someone do this before.... one thick stripe next to one thin stripe..) of varying colors, depending on their purpose. So red for assault, blue for long ranged, gold for command, etc.
And the yellowish brown is Ushabti Bone with a tiny bit of Steel Legion Drab.

 WOW!
I think being new is a blessing in disguise for your painting. For some reason in 40k, people are concerned with their color first and foremost, which I believe to be incorrect. Since 40k Marines and such are seperated by their distinct palate, that seems to be all people really focus on when painting, especially new people. When I first started, it looked like I just dipped my blood angels into red paint to MAKE SURE everyone knew they were blood angels, instead of making my dudes look like they have been fighting battles. Those look like real banged up vehicles. I like it a lot. Keep up the good work.

A brilliant start! They're beautifully gritty, they look like they'd appear at home in a desert or Trench warfare, the scheme is that well done that it can work in several environments.

Can't say I have anything to complain about, other than WHY HAVE YOU NOT DONE MORE?
Seriously, they look great. And if you like tanks, the Guard is the place to go. Chimeras, Russes of all varieties, Hellhounds, Basilisks, Colossi, Medusas, Manticores, Valkyries, Vendettas, Sentinels, the list goes on and on.

Thanks you guys! As a newcomer to DakkaDakka, you've all made me feel very welcome.
Brymm: Yeah man, I definitely agree. I think the craziest I can go are maybe the bright colors for the Orks (yellow and black is cool!) and maaaybe some of those purples and gold for Chaos. But the bright blue for a bunch of highly trained and genetically engineered Space Marines? Baaarely tactical!
Joshh: I've got a few more models I've painted recently, and a lot more coming in the mail! I'll be sure to keep this forum posted.
heavybolter: This is actually the first time I've painted miniatures, but I've been doing scifi/fantasy cover art for a few years.

Thanks man, its one of my favorite models along with my Killa Khans. Your Orks look fantastic. I'd like to see your take on an Ultramarine just to see how youd apply the weathering to him.

I've seen some people on YouTube that use this warm colored earth tone weathering powder. I don't ever plan on having an ultramarine army because I feel that they and the blood ravens are too overrepresented, but id probably go that route. I think the warm orange tones would complement the blue really well.
Maybe if I have a spare dreadnought one day.:-)
