It all starts with me getting this crazy idea that a Russian BMP would make a great Chimera. So, what does this dumb idea turn into....this thread of course!

Well, I started my hunt like any1 else, I went to my local Hobby shop in search of the humbled BMP. I failed. Step 2, I went to EBay. I succeeded. I located a bunch of Chinese BMP-1's being sold by some guy in..you guessed it, China. They was cheap, very cheap...so I purchased 4.

I cut the optics off the Hunter Kiiller Launcher, and attached it to the Hv. Bolter that is to become the acting Hull Bolter

The Turret mounted Hv. Flamer, I just stole that from a previous Chimera Sprue.

Looks pretty nice. Just needs a paint job for the Emperor.

Its a work in progress yet.

Since this is a BMP, having the normal hull mounted Hv. Bolter would not work, so I grabbed this Hv. Bolter from a Twin-Linked Hv. Bolter turret that came with a Razorback I made for a buddy.

That looks way too large for a chimera. Have dimensions or a comparison shot? 1/48 is usually much closer with modern vehicles. Especially since 40k vehicles tend to be underscaled to the infantry.

All I have to do is finishing touches. Paint the shovel on the hull, add "more" unit markings.

All things are lookin' good IMO.

I think 1/35th is the perfect scale. It is more accurate to the scale of the infantry. But anyway, Im not actually sure Im going to use it in my army. I might just stick with Games Workshop Chimera Kits...with help from Forgeworld.

Cool idea. Normally I am not a fan of the cross genre kit bashes but this one seems to work pretty well.

I think that is because Chimeras are based on Russian APCs...

Looks like a pretty good start. The main problem with 40k scale is that everything is so wacky! I personally think you should continue your endeavors!

I believe the Chimera is based on 2 vehicles of our Combined past (our, I mean all nations)
the Russian BMP(Series)
the British Mk.I...or perhaps the French Char B-1(because the rap-around tracks)

I was particularly pleased that the Chimera's plow was a perfect width for the BMP...I mean, P-E-R-F-E-C-T.
