I sent GW an e-mail with a few questions about Space Wolves in 6th and this is the reply e-mail:

"Thanks for the email about Space Wolves. It's great to hear that you are enjoying Warhammer 40'000 6th edition. For the rules questions that you have asked below we would be happy to Answer these.

Do Wolf guard that are in there own pack (not pack leaders) count as characters?
Yes, All of your Wolf guard will get precision strike and look out sir when they are in there unit.

Do lone wolves count as characters?
Yes, The character listing for this is listed on page 411 of the Warhammer 40'000 rule book

Dose Lucas count as a character?
Yes, as he is treated as a squad leader for your blood claws.

Do long fangs have flakk missiles?
No one at this stage has access to these missiles yet as it stats in the Missile launcher entry that all missile launchers have both Frag and Krak missiles but some may also be able to pay extra points for Flakk missiles.

Hope that this helps and if you have any other questions please contact us again"

Good to get confirmation on the flakk missile issue.

Wrong forum and CS replies are generally not considered to be worth the electrons they were written with.

You may doubt the authenticity of these customer support questions, but there's nothing new here.

The first three questions are answered on pg411. Simple as that.

The last question is simply taken as a RAW. If it doesn't say they have Flakk Missiles, they don't have Flakk Missiles for the same reason my Termagants don't all have Psycannons.

I don't doubt the authenticity, I just follow the rules of YMDC:

2. The only official sources of information are the current rulebooks and the Games Workshop FAQs. Emails from Askyourquestion@games-workshop.com are technically official, but they are easily spoofed and should not be relied on.

Ahh the guy is just trying to share and help.

OP- Thanks! The issue with the Flakk missile is well misunderstood.

Halcon,

Just curious. Did you cut and paste the email into the forum post or did you type it?

Basically what he is saying is without the Proper Inquisitorial Seal of Authenticity there is no way of PROVING your e-mail coraspondance is accurate. For example: I emailed GW and they said as long as I am playing Grey Knights I automatically win no matter what! DONT GET ME WRONG I AM NOT CALLING YOU A LIAR BY ANY MEANS! However, rule 121 of the internet applies, PICS OR IT DIDDNT HAPPEN

One day I was confused about some rules and asked GW a question. I thought the answers might be helpful so I posted them in an internet forum. A bunch of trolls called me a liar, so I decided to never be helpful again. Somewhere, a kitten cried.

Thanks OP, for helping to clear this up, even though it won't. Check the story on BOLS for example.

"Rule #2. The only official sources of information are the current rulebooks and the Games Workshop FAQs. Emails from Askyourquestion@games-workshop.com are technically official, but they are easily spoofed and should not be relied on."

The real point behind rule #2 is that customer service monkeys that answer the e-mails usually have no idea what the actual RAW is.

Ask a question twice and you will get three different answers.

This is because the pencil pushers have nothing to do with the game designers.

That's not true. Lone Wolves - yes that's on p411, but Lucas is never mentioned. Also the Wolf Guard entry is still not definitive esp in consideration of the v6 FAQ which states that a Wolf Guard's unit type becomes "Character" when he uses the "Pack Leader" rule - implying that it *wasn't* "Character" prior to that. As Wolf Guard in an all wolf guard squad have not made use of the "Pack Leader" rule, I'd take that to mean squads don't count (And that's *not* from pg411 either).

Absolutionis wrote:The last question is simply taken as a RAW. If it doesn't say they have Flakk Missiles, they don't have Flakk Missiles for the same reason my Termagants don't all have Psycannons.
Well this isn't really true either, is it? The reason Codex: Space Wolves *doesn't* list Long Fangs as equipped with Flakk Missiles is Flakk Missiles are a new type of missile that have only just been invented in v6 of the 40K Rulebook - and didn't exist at the time the codex was written. The codex does, however, list them as having all of the missile types that existed for that launcher at the time the codex was written. It's a reasonable question and one that many people have been asking.

Whereas the reason your Termagants don't all have Psycannons is because Psycannons are a Grey Knights-only weapon and your Termagants are Tyranids. (I think you'll find those are *different* reasons).

So there's no need to act all snotty towards someone who is just trying to share a bit of info.

Who would ever put Psycannons on Termagants? I model mine with Turbolaser Destructors and Vortex Missiles on the back of Gargantuan Squiggoths - no sense doing MFA half-way.

I was thinking the same thing. I can't imagine the customer service department sending an email with so many typos and grammatical errors.

It isn't a matter of trusting the authenticity, We can't know if *that* GW employee knows what he is talking about.

I can easily see him looking at the back of the book, and making the call on the Wolf Guard; without knowing to look at the FAQ for more information.

Remember the GW "Rulz Boyz" from back in 3rd . You could literally send them two differnet emails asking the same question and get different responses.

I dont know if it is still in effect, but for rules that two players contradict on and a third unbiased finds to be in limbo, cant you roll to see if the rule is in effect?

Yeh, but some of these issues are key to building an army... you'd want to be pretty sure of the answer before you took to the field with your list

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Best bet would be to talk about it with your opponent/gaming group while still in the planning stage of organising a game (if you have regular opponents).

This is in place for a reason - until and unless GW posts a particular question/answer pair as part of a FAQ, it is impossible to rely on the answer, as it's not equally available to all.
