Just wondering if this is a good setup for tau (necron allies), seeing as night fighting is quite prominent now and it is a great advantage to Tau as a whole, for survivability as well as the fact that pretty much everything can have night vision
Imotekh – 225
Cryptek /w Tremorstave + Seismic Crucible – 40
20x Necron Warriors - 260
Imotekh keeps the night fighting, as well as bringing bolts of lightning that is the bane of all rhino's - Not needed or better to field 2 Solar Pulses rather than the 225 for him?
Tremorstave screws jump infantry trying to assault the gunline as they will be taking dangerous terrain tests due to jump packs - Think that is pretty Solid
What about tarpitting Warriors in front of the fire warriors however? Would a small squad of immortals be better as well as a kroot tarpit to screw enemy assault?
Thoughts on how this can be used effectively and other good set-ups for tau please

It could work, though I would simply take one squad of nercon warriors and focus on more tau stuff for more synergy.

I've been toying with the idea myself. The only thing stopping me is the fact that Imotekh is so damn expensive. I normally play at around 1500pts so at minimum ~300 points (Imotekh and min warrior squad) is a hefty investment into something like this.

Im leaning more to towards just having 2 Solar Pulse Crypteks and a lord.
That gives me 2 turns of nighting (i can pick the turns ), 2x S8 AP2 Eldritch Lances, and something to run straight into the biggest threat and pray i win the tesseract labyrinth roll.
I think in 2.5k Imotekh will be more viable??

If 5th it was generally not a good idea to include the named Necrons in anything less than 2000 point games.
In 6th?
Well, at 2000 points things get a little crazy now, what with the double FOC, so I don't even know anymore.
Though I will say, if you're planning on taking Imotekh, make sure to include a Chrono-tek with his unit, so you'll be able to reroll those lightning strikes.

Good idea, and i suppose everything is concepts now, thinking about it, a monolith is better than imotehk for these points, and just take a cheap necron HQ, that way i have something bigger than alot of scenery to block my fire warriors from being assaulted, and to kite the enemy by being a moving wall And kill.

Don't forget, if you want 2 pulses you need 2 overlords if Cron are the allied detachment. This means 2k+ point games, and actually spending more than on Imotek.

How so? Someone told me that before and I read the codex to find that it says "enemy units". Since the Tau are not, in this case, enemy units they wouldn't get affected. I didn't see any other wording on this in the FAQ either. The ally rules just say that the abilities of "allies of convenience" could not affect friendly units (i.e. buffs and debuffs from eldar farseers on an ally of convenience).
If I'm missing the point, please let me know.

The 'ally' rules indicate all non-'battle brother' allies (which for necrons rules out any other race; including tau which would count as allies of convenience) "count as enemy units that cannot be charged, shot, targeted with psychic powers or have templates or blast markers placed over them." Imotekh's lightning is not charging, shooting, a psychic power, or a template/blast weapon.
Ergo, he does not play well with others...

Thats a good reason to not use him then lol.
Here is what i will be using as allies for my 1500 Tau:
Necron Overlord warscythe MSS CCB
necron warriors x5 w/ Cryptek Harb of Destruction, solar pulse
Wraiths x3
The overlord and wraiths help make up for the lack of melee in Tau. The warriors with the cryptek are cheap and decent for the mandatory troops choice. Total 420 points.
