I'm converting a Librarian to make it look like he is casting a psychic power after being inspired by the picture in the GK codex. I've managed to get the pose I'm looking for with his hand but I am at a loss as to how to model the 'lightning'. I've seen a couple of examples of the same thing but something doesn't look right with them. All help is appreciated

I don't want to make it as big as it is in the picture but sizeable enough so that it really adds to the model

I've been thinking about this as well.

I'll probably use a hobby drill and some nicely shaped paper-clips. The good thing about paper-clips is that they're flexible without looking flimsy.

Paper clips coated with greenstuff to make the smaller forks. use the really tiny paper clips. not the regular ones.

@Grey Templar- that was the sort of path I was thinking

@Dr What- Looks very cool if i simply cannot get the lightning to work out i may do something similar to that

I'm just not sure what sort of shape to do the bolts, straight and angular or flowy more like real lightning. Also i was thinking of doing it coming from the palm rather than the fingers of his hand if that influences the style it should be

Could be literally anything.

The GKs have every single possable psychic manifestation recorded, and all of the possable powers/styles. So they could literally use any power they wished.

What do you reckon to just giving him glowing eyes and a glow round the palm of hie hand then?

I need to finish converting his force weapon (still dont have the part for that ) before i can do any painting on him. Thanks for the tips guys

But on a serious not, I think painting him up as if he's charging the lighting would be better. If you mess up the lightning, it's gonna be REALLY messed up.

Pretty much this. It's really hard to make big energy/casting effects look good. If he's shooting a fire-/energy ball, or something, you might have better luck finding (Armorcast Cinematic Effects) or sculpting something convincing. Lightning usually ends up looking like a tangle of blue wire. Keep it subtle and it'll turn out all the better for it.

Here are a couple of examples of Libbys I did awile back.

The Termi Libby.

The first guy I went a bit overboard. I tried to keep it a bit understated for the Termi though. Its more just to give the idea of blasting power than "BLASTING POWER!", if you get my drift.

@Nicorex- Looks great would love to see it painted if you got any pictures

I think will try and do the same type of thing that Nicorex did on the termi Lib but if that goes awry i'll just do a glowing effect, which I will need to learn beforehand

why not try fire?

as you can see im no master sculptor (or painter lol) but i feel its convincing enough as fire

fires pretty easy to sculpt with greenstuff but if your dead set on lightning..well i wish the best of luck to you

It does seem a good idea to do, having tried to make a 'lightning' effect I found I didn't like it and so have scrapped that idea.

@Fluffyfen- How did you make the fire effect?

to make fire all you do is kind of pull at the greenstuff in slightly random directions but you keep the general flow in the same direction. often i get a hooked tool and jab it through the green stuff and pull till its free. i also make small indentions and less dramatic pulls. its hard to put into words and its good to build up with seperate portions of greenstuff. if you try to use one big chunk itll be to heavy

this is the tutorial that actually helped me
