I just started painting a few models from my new Necron army, and I'd love to show them off. I tried a metallic purple, but ended up going with this blue look instead. Any advice on other colors to throw in would be great.

There are some spots I still intend on painting different colors. Just have decided what yet.

I'd say standard green glow, or maybe neon blue.

Also did you drybursh, use a glaze ontop of the metallic color or use a paint of that color?

I drybrushed the base coat with Runefang Steel then applied 5-7 layers of the Guilliman Glaze. Its hard to control with a brush, but not too hard.

Green or a red. Blue can work as well but you'll be after a pretty light one instead.

I think I'll go with the green, since I'm keeping the original weapon rods on my Warriors. I shall post pics when I finish with the green! Thanks for the input folks!

Looking good. I'm a fan of metallic coloured Necrons.

One thing you may not have considered (or you may have, I don't know), although GW don't sell blue metallics, other companies do, and they can be a good way of getting a vibrant blue metallic in 1 or 2 coats rather than using silver and 5-7 layers of glaze.

Check out my blue Necrons...

That might not be the effect you're going for though, just thought I'd share That was "Aqueous Hobby Colour" blue metallic, and the purple bitz I mixed myself from the blue metallic and a red metallic (again from aqueous hobby colour). They're all acrylics as well (if you want to go into enamels there's a large selection of metallic colours as people use them for painting model cars, but in acrylics those were one of only a few blues and reds I could find). I then threw a blue wash over it to give it some shading, and then since the blue shade is matt, I used a watered down gloss varnish to bring back some of the natural metallic shine.

Thanks I actually wanted a coloured metallic Necron army (either blue, red or purple) for years and never got around to it because GW never sold coloured metallics (well, they did a very long time ago when I first started collecting, but not any time in recent memory).

I ended up spending a day driving from hobby shop to hobby shop asking if they had coloured metallics in acrylics (as I said, enamels aren't hard to find) and eventually found those Aqueous Hobby Colour ones.

But I live in Australia, if you're in the UK or US you can probably find them more easily (I saw a few places where you could mail order other brands that also sell coloured metallics, but none would mail them to Oz).

When I went to GW to ask them how to paint a blue metallic the responses ranged from mixing blue with silver to painting silver and layering washes and glazes, but using an actual blue metallic gives a really striking look (which not everyone wants, but I did ).

Very nice work.

I bought an acrylic mixer that makes any acrylic paint metallic. It works really with blue, but turns reds to a pink which is very disappointing. But by the by, your mini looks cool n I'm looking forward to seeing more

So here's the Deathmarks scheme. I snapped these before I put on the weapons and head, since they would cover the chest. I'm also including my half-finished Imotekh!

Here's the final version of the Deathmarks Blue Steel scheme. After I finish the whole unit, I will go back and add in the green glows to the models. Next up are more deathmarks, then a Command Barge...

Indeed. I was expecting something more like this:

I am disappoint.

Sorry for not updating this earlier.

I was really excited to paint my Necrons, but shortly after I started assembling them, one of our local players had his entire necron army stolen during an event.

So I set aside my painting, and joined the rest of the local gamers in donating units, bits, and supplies to help him recoup his loss from whatever souless bastard stole his army.

I no longer have my necrons, but still want to continue this army scheme one day. For now, it goes on the back burner.

Now it seems the chance to revive this project is on the horizon!

My LGS is holding an escalation league, and I feel the need to play some necrons! So onto the store for units and paint! Updates coming soon!

Yesterday after work I picked up my Battleforce box for the Escalation League.

I found a different base coat spray than what I normally use (I used to use the Army Painter Platemail Metal spray). My wife, in an attempt to find it for me at the store, found instead a generic brand's Aluminium color. It is just a few shades away from the brightness of chrome, and to be honest, I really enjoy it for the necrons!

So I base coated them on the sprue, something I don't usually do. But since I plan on giving them a few more coats of the spray to really bring out the color, I figure it'll be okay.

Sunday I start clipping and filing them, then back to my work bench for coat 1.5. I'll hit them another time before the end of next week again, then onto the detailing.

I picked the Necrons for the escalation league for the ease of painting. By far, they seem to be the quickest to paint, and with only the 535 points that the Battleforce box comes with, I'll need that speed to fill out 1000 points before Aug 15th.

But right now, I have the sprues set aside for Sunday. I'm very much looking forward to picking up the project again! I've decided to only paint the models I really want to, and not build a competitive army until after the league is finished.

My other two buddies (the ones I regularly meet on Sundays for 40k) are also in the league. They choose Space Wolves and Orks. That's 3 new armies to our choices each week. The first buddy runs IG, Eldar, and Tau. The second has Nids, and Dark Eldar. I have Grey Knights and Dark Angels. So adding in these armies will help us learn our normal lists for the local competitions.

Oh, and just for the record, I will be scratch building "The eugugalizer". Thank you Aerethan for the idea!

Alright, I've grown a little as a painter since I started this project, and I have just the right idea for the scheme. Unlike some of the items I've done in the past, I really want a harmonious effect from the colors on my Crons, and since I'm sticking with the Blue Steel theme, I wanted colors that would compliment the blue.

So the blue will be a bright metal undercoat with a dark blue wash, and Blue glaze. Accents on the model and weapon will be gold. The weapon will be a dark purple color, and I'm keeping the green rods.

It should line up with shades similar to this:

Here's the first models to come out of the painting process. I went with the metallic blue, my awesome aluminum base coat, and some blue wash. These are by far the simplest ones to paint, because they have no weapons, and no details I wanted to paint. Simple and beautiful if you ask me!
