hi guys so iv strated to collect a new necron army and decided on a black and blue colour scheme because i didnt want to just go with metal and green like normal and my original idea was to have it look as if the blue was glowing out the joints and eyes so i based the warriors with ice blue and have given them a very heavy dry brush of black so the blue is only left in the recesses but im not sure if im happy with the end results and im not sure what to do with the detail ?

what do you guys think and what do you recomend ?

thanks

ps. they do have more black on them than the 1st two pictures as iv gien them another dry brush

I'm not a fan of the colour choices tbh
drybrushing the armour black isn't the best solution as the armour isn't completely black now, lots of blue coming through in the wrong areas to get a glow effect

im actualy in the process of repainting the black areas rather than relying on the dry brush as i didnt like how much blue was left either so ill try and upload another photo after iv finished but im still unsure what colour to use to highlight the black or give it the glow effect around the eyes :S

any advice ?
thanks

I'm actually quite a fan of this. It's radically different from any 'crons I've ever seen.

Sets a nice theme, got a basing idea to match?

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I would now say to wash each one in Guilliman Blue glaze to give the bright blue a bit of depth.

...Then you do the bases in black drybrushed with leadbelcher, and some inset gridwork on the ground done in Temple Guard.

The second one looks a lot better. You could try applying a blue wash to the light blue areas to give them a bit of shading.

My thought is that by working with black and a light blue, you've limited yourself to a cool colour pallet, or else contrast with an orange.

I did a quick search for liquid blue metal to try and find a viable colour scheme to make it look like the same energy used in the rippling monolith portals.

Would it be possible to apply a rippling texture to the gauss flayer with liquid greenstuff, and then go over it in say, white, then mix your temple guard blue/ice blue/what have you with Lahmian Medium to create your own glaze? You get the semi-transparent colour pooling in the recesses of the texture while still colouring your white basecoat to some degree. Apply 'Ard Coat over top that to give it a gloss finish and complete a somewhat fluid/energized impression.

EDIT- I'm apparently only thinking about the energy portion. My only other idea is to drybrush the rest of the weapon very lightly with necron compound. Maybe a black wash over that to tone it down even further.

TheHarleqwin thanks for the idea but did you mean this for the actual gauss flayer or the rod ? i think its a great idea for the rod and im trying adaptus battle grey for the flayer with a lighter grey for some highlights and a very thin blue wash around the power coil and the end of the gauss rod to give it a glowing look ? ill upload anothe rpicture when iv finished to see what you guys think

Yeah, I totally meant the rod. I wasn't thinking very clearly, but I'm glad you got the idea.

There is another user here doing the same scheme with just a few variations. He even posted a tutorial. His user name is Soul of Iron. Should check it out!

I thought the white was a little stark at first, but then I looked at it again and decided it really fits. I like.
