Possessed Khorne Marine Covered in Spikes
|
(Not sure if this is the right forum section, admin please feel free to move if it isn't).
I pre-ordered a set of these a couple of months ago. they shipped early in the week and arrived today. I thought I would pop a quick review on here in case others are wondering whether to purchase these or not. Hopefully it may prove useful to someone!
Ok, first thing first, the box sleeve is very professionally printed and everything is very well packed.
After unpacking the box, (again very well packed inside) it contains 10 individually packaged mantis, each on their own white metal sprues. All sprues are complete with no badly casted parts and as far as I can see no mold lines, yay! Bases for both 40k and WHFB are included.
There are some really nice poses in the set, as far as I can tell all 10 models are different, although several look very similar. The assembly seems very straightforward with well thought out join areas. The skin has a lightly textured finish and the detail is fine, crisp and clean. The figures themselves are rather naked, so may not be suitable to buy for kids or those who don't like that kind of thing in their wargaming.
They also come with a command squad upgrade, with an extra herald head that reminds me of the alien from the Species films. Very nice.
As you can see the poses are quite dynamic and remind me of those excellent old metal daemonettes from the early 2000's. These are obviously intended to be run as daemonettes, and I think they will look excellent together as a squad, but this brings me to the only negative aspect of these figures... they are too small for 40k
If you are intending to run them as a separate squad it's not an issue, but if you are mixing them with the regular plastic citadel daemonettes they will look like overly well endowed 12 year olds in comparison, which is most definitely not a good thing. They are considerably shorter, thinner-limbed and more delicate than the citadel plastics. I would suggest running either only these, or only the citadel daemonettes, and not mixing them if you are having a daemonette contingent in your army.
Size comparison:
Thanks for reading, hope it helps someone

I was thinking the very same thing. But it's kind of par for the course if you want lithe ladies in dynamic poses. These are really my style as much as the Blood Vestals were, but I could see making some rockin dryads out of these.

Those look nice but none with 6 breasts?
Also, I can't look at daemonettes anymore w/o thinking of the Grey Knight flash video.

I'm feeling cheated in the breast department, as well.
Other then that, I don't know which one disturbed me more, your picture, or your addie.
Those girls are pretty cool looking, either way.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Thanks for taking the time to write this review. I have been eying these figures since their pre-orders went up and your review is the push I needed to commit to a purchase.
Size-wise the Mantis Warriors look like they could be good stand-ins for Cryx Satyxis Raiders, too if you swapped out their weapons.

They were designed so they could also be used as Two-Breasted Warbling Dryads. Unfortunately you'll require greenstuff for full six-###ty satisfaction. Automatically Appended Next Post: Thanks for the review. Eventually I'd like to pick up the not-Witch Elves, so I like to read reviews of their quality.

I dont see the need. I have never pinned an infantry sized metal mini, and never had problems with them coming apart. Use a good quality super glue and your good to go.

Same here. Patience and gorilla superglue beats all metal. Even the now OOP hive tyrant! Those models look so much better than the GW plastics, I almost like them more than the OOP metals.

Those look great! I love Raging Heroes across the board and only wish I had armies where I could buy more of their products. The only model I have is http://www.ragingheroes.com/collections/complete-collection/products/kapitan-ivanka-kurganova-28mm who is my guard regiment's feared and beautiful commissar. Fantastic mini of /excellent/ quality.
Having a poke around their site this model:
http://www.ragingheroes.com/collections/complete-collection/products/asharah-sf-28mm
Seems to be begging to be set up as a Chaos Lord (lady?) DE Archon or what struck me immediately was Ciaphas Cain's recurring nightmare Emili the Daemon Princess of Slaanesh.
The RA Cyberwolves look great for the Space Wolves player in all of us and now with this great review we find they do excellent old school daemonettes (still sounds like a theater candy to me) can't wait to see how they look painted Daedricbob!

Their certainly much better that the faux daemonettes Gamezone came out with. Honestly, the thing that stands out to me the most in the comparison with the plastic GW daemonette is how well sculpted the current daemonette models are. If only they were more naked and had more breasts. Sigh... They have actual anatomical features, underlying bone structure, and muscle tone. The Raging Hero minis while pretty have soft features, comic book anatomy, and smooth details. Their still sexy though.
Since, they look pretty small I might buy some and paint them gold to use them as icons or objective markers in my True-scale Emperor's Children army.
