Hi guys

Sporadic activity as usual, I thought I'd start an ongoing p&m blog that I can add to if and when I get time.

*sept 2012 edit*
As an aside, I've been thinking about diffent approaches to modelling and converting recently. I am very much a doer rather than a planner - my conversions arise in the spur of the moment, or from the kernel of an idea (or a stolen idea in the case of my counts as vespids!). I also tend to use the bits that I have or can acquire via warhammer buddies. I don't ever purchase sprues just to get the right weapons - I'd rather scratch build or kitbash. The flipside is that I tend to be a bit slapdash - my conversions are not about accuracy, scale or anything like that. They are about spur of the moment, recession economics, and fun! If this appeals to you, read on!

Also if my activity falls off, its probably because I'm working on my sisters:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/382316.page

Well either that or living, yknow!

ALSO - I'm currently looking for a P&M blogger buddy to tag team with. I'm the sort of person that needs deadlines to get anything done.. I found I did much better when blog tag teaming with Bro Kal, sadly not around much. If anyone fancies being my tag team-mate send me a PM (if it doesn't sound to homo-erotic/ space marine-ish)!

*end edit*

OK so the 1st thing is kroot conversion project. These are proxies for farseer and eldar pathfinder allies. Basic idea is a kroot shaman and kroot snipers.

I've done a lot of the work for the shaman already but hes not quite as primal looking as I want. The kroot pathfinders are just at the sketch/design stage. I've made the bases - they will all be laid in wait for their prey. Pics attached are of the bits i will be using. hope to update soon ish! C&C welcome.

OK guys I had a brainwave over the last week or two. Partly this was initiated by dakkanaught Embrace your inner geek who suggested a farseer on jetbike as a mechanism for keeping up with fast-moving crisis teams. I have taken this game idea and meshed it with an idea I had previously for a Tau "Master of Communications". Fluff below, pics and modelling to follow when I get a minute or two.

“The Borkan masters of communications are masters of language, propaganda and technology. They study at the altar of knowledge at the library-world of Borkan in their early years, learning how language has been used by historians and the political classes to show triumphant and brutal empires in a positive light. They closely study other cultures, particularly humans, in order to understand how the Imperium exercises mass mind control on its populations through propaganda and xenophobia. The master of communication follows the teachings of imperial inquisition - as soon as he arrives on a new world, he develops a network of contacts and agents, all used to spy, harass, distract and distribute pamphlets. Finally, rather than use this knowledge to create intrigue in their own society, masters of communication are deployed in war-time by Borkan Cadres to confuse, subdue and mind-control their enemies. In addition to their incredible knowledge, masters of communication deploy extensive satellite networks, and make use of an array of specialised drones which are the tools by which the master of communication broadcasts his message to the battlefield. In this way the enemy is monitored for weakness, and can be tracked even in extreme conditions allowing Tau units time to use this battlefield intelligence to perform surgical strikes. It has been known for entire armies to have been stopped in their tracks owing to the powers of a master of communications to demoralize the enemy. In battle these masters of subterfuge and mind-control can be found embedded in crisis teams, guiding their brothers to victory, often utilizing jetpacks, drones and other advanced technology.”

Latest wacky idea is a counts as land raider. I have several devilfish I never use, and I decided late last night that kitbashing them would be a good idea. Results attached. Sorry for the terrible quality.

OK - next up is a unit of ethereals. Yes you heard me right! I love the idea of the ethereals but it seems to me in game terms they have always been awful. Which is why I'm re-tooling them as a super close combat unit by using them as space marine allies!

The "extreme negotiation team" as I call them consists of:
Aun-shi
2 regular ethereals
2 converted battle wizards

pics to follow...

Interesting..

"Ooh, a big flashy lighty thing! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually, but give me time. And a crayon!" ...

1 inquisitor, not even a inquisitor lord, and the other 2955pts went into orbital bombardment lance strikes.

I have also attached some work recently done on counts-as vespids. This work started a long time ago here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/293075.page

I'm now using dark eldar bits to make the look more vespid-ey

Love the idea of the ethereal extreme negotiation team! What were they going to counts as? They could be count as harlequins, to fit in with the shaper/farseer, and the sniper kroot/ pathfinders.

I can't recall that sketch, but they do look great. Remind me of the wicker hats that samurai sometimes wear (apparently called 'Kasas', thanks google). I guess that GW were going for in the art you mentioned, and also what you've achived in your models.

Waht did you use for the hats? Is it a Tau bit? Looks like somekind of shield.

Some people say it's a shield generator. But they are wrong, it is a hat

see page 9 & 23 of the Tau 'dex for hats.
