Effective 8/7, only the How to Paint article was released for August from the list below...

As much as I would like to see it, I don't think they would release a digital book the same weekend as a print book.

(Looking at CSM release date)

It would cut into the print book sales too much IMHO.

CSM release does seem a bit odd, I would want to release the printed book first, then the digital so it makes more people buy both rather than one or the other.

Why post stuff from Stickmonkey? He has been caught totally lying.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

And there it is folks. I forsee all sets of rules from WD only arriving in iOS format from now on.

So sucked in if you missed the (now sold out) issue of WD or don't own an iPad. You're gak out of luck.

It only invalidates if theirs doesn't come true.

I thought with the release of demons, everyone who predicted CSM being next/1st 6th Ed army up would be wrong by default.

When did Daemons get a codex release? I certainly don't remember any such thing.

I mean there was an update and a unit or two, but certainly not an Army Release.

Not really. GW has to pay to produce the book, ship it out to retailers, and then hope they sell their inventory. With digital copies, there's none of that, so even at a reduced price they're still making money, even if they have to pay a few royalties to Apple.

@ZebioLIzard2: It's not a new Codex, just an updated one with the rules for the new units and changed rules.

A few releases up, including Empire Army book, How to paint Chaos Daemons, and Space Marine battle missions (more specifically Altar of War: Space Marines - described as 6 band-new missions for Space Marine players).

Space Marine battle missions? You mean they just took that section from the Battle Missions book and are now selling it separately?

Pretty sure I didn't say that. Per iTunes website:

"Altar of War missions provide all the information required to play games inspired by the battlefield tactics of the different Warhammer 40,000 armies. This book contains six brand-new missions which you can use instead of the Eternal War missions in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook if you or your opponent has a Space Marine army, allowing you to fight the daring lightning assaults, surprise planetfall attacks and heroic last stands of the Emperor’s Space Marines. "

I know you didn’t say that. I’m asking what they are. That iTunes blurb is meaningless.

When a channel plays something they’ve already played before they call it a repeat. When a different channel plays that same show, but it’s the first time they’ve played it, it’s not a repeat, it’s a new episode (from that channels point of view).

These may be old missions in a new format, hence “all new”, or they may actually be 6 new missions. That’s what I want to know.

I simply posted a quick heads up. If you want to know more details then buy the product and see for yourself. However, in response to my post you said,

I bought the "Altar of War: Space Marine" book and it's not bad. It has the 3 space marine missions from the Battle Missions book, fully updated for 6th edition with victory points and even a new secondary objective called "War of Attrition" for some of the missions. Plus there are 3 brand new missions.

Hmm. Well, a bunch of stuff was released, but only one matched his predictions.

The Empire army book, a Daemons of Chaos painting guide and six new battle missions for Space Marine players.

So the GW article announcing their digital releases this month comes right out and says their digital codexes and army books will be updated when new FAQs are released. Great to actually see that in print!

Oooh, I was too busy confirming rumors and missed that. Good catch:

GW wrote:
Much like the Space Marine and Necron Codexes that we have already put on the iBookstore, the Empire army book is chock-full of new features. In addition to the army list, the bestiary and the miniatures gallery you've also got several new features such as 360 degree images of many of the miniatures and a rather handy shortcut button for accessing unit entries. A simple press of a button takes you from army list entry to unit bestiary, and a second click takes you to the unit summary sheet, which means even in the heat of battle you can look up units, rules and other information very quickly and easily. One of the biggest features, however, is that like the Space Marine and Necron Codexes, the Empire army book is entirely up-to-date with rules and FAQs and will be periodically updated when new FAQs are released. Great news all round I'd say!

Hmmm, so far they've kept to releasing digital stuff only once a month, and pretty much close to the same day each month (about 5-7 days into the month).

They even have had articles saying what is being released digitally for the 'month'...and so far that's been the case. They haven't put out a notification saying that they're releasing 'X' for the month and then gone ahead and released 'Y & Z' later on in the month, so the rumor doesn't seem to match up with the reality we've seen so far.

Either the GW news release is wrong about this being all we're getting for the month of August, or this guy's source is flat-out mistaken about something.

While they may change their digital release pattern starting in September, I think we can safely assume we're not seeing anything else in August.

So, I noticed that they quietly released the Orcs & Goblins army book this past Saturday. Checking through the rumors so far, it isn't looking good for Stickymonkey.

The Rumors:

August - Codex: Daemons (obvious) - False
August - How to Paint Chaos Daemons - True
August - Daemons Tactica - False
August - WFB Temple of Skulls scenario - False
August - WFB Soul Grinder - False

September - 6th Ed 40k digital rulebook (will go up same weekend as starter set released) - False (still waiting to see if it happens later in the month)
September - How to Paint (I am not certain but this may be the same as the flip book that was released earlier this year with the paint set.) - False
September - And a few more WFB - What does this even mean? This doesn't even qualify as a rumor.

The Facts:

In August, GW released the following on iTunes:

Altar of War (Space Marine missions)
How to Paint Daemons of Chaos
The Empire army book

So far, in September, GW has released the following:

How to Paint Dark Vengence (Starter set figures)
Orcs & Goblins army book

So, that's one true item out of eight rumors. Stickymonkey didn't even make mention of the 40k missions, the two Warhammer army books that were released, nor the How to Paint for the starter set.

I guess we can keep September's stuff in the "pending" pile as GW "may" release the rulebook and big "how to paint" book but I'm doubtful given how they're making money off the smaller painting eBooks. I also don't expect to see the main rulebooks (40k & Fantasy) hit the digital world untill GW has made back their costs on the physical stuff.
