So I've recently finished building my first army, a 500 point Ork army, and I built up enough confidence to try scratch building. I'm a huge fan of the Gretchin, and thought it would be fun to make a Gretchin boss. Obviously he's not big enough to stand up to an Ork in a fair fight, but Mork smiled on this one and he's mighty kunnin'! Sadly he's also not big enough to carry around the things he thinkers on, so he drives them around on his little treads.
I think I'm ready to start painting the model, but thought I should get some second opinions on what could be added or taken away before I have to ruin my very slow paint job.
Thanks!

That is really, really cool! A great conversion, I love the tracks, Kudos!
But you need a weapon or two and maybe some tools

The reason I didn't initially add a weapon was I was afraid of it coming across as a dreadnaught close combat weapon. Since he's already on treads I was trying to minimize him looking like a vehicle rather than infantry, but I thought I'd try out this whole weapon thing. It looks pretty awesome.
I think I may also try putting a tool box/ tool bag hanging off the front axel, but feel it may get too busy. In which case, I'll put a wrench in his mouth, or in a trailer like Candle man suggested.

Nasty Nob

I loooove this model, and the weapon arm really sells it.
However, as a "Little Mek", I really think he should be holding a spanner or mallet, rather than a pointy choppa. It would emphasize his 'mek's tools' and allow him to work on vehicles more easily. If you keep the choppa, I would consider posing it point downward, in a stabbing motion, perhaps.
He is great, though. I think you could use him as a Big Mek with KFF easily (and then you don't have to add another shooty weapon to make him WSIWYG).
I also think some exhaust pipes on the back, between the traks, would be ace!
Great job!

Love it!
Really think this could be used as a KFF Mek meaning that there's no need for a weapon but you could always use it as a killa kan.

I really like the idea of replacing the choppa. The arm is magnetized so I may replace it with a wrench arm later, but for now I'm gonna take a break from it.
So I've added a toolbox and tools to the front, exhaust to the back, and then painted it.

Now it's really done, and I promise not to post any more pictures of it. I really appreciate all the tips. In retrospect (first picture) it wouldn't have been nearly as interesting without the arm (and my ego is suitably fed that one of the main complaints was one of the two non scratch built pieces). Not only does it make it more interesting, but it is pretty close in profile to a KFF Big Mek so it won't feel like modeling for advantage.

It most certainly can be used in the game. Orks can get away with anything, their orks! As long as there is a codex entry and a model that represents WYSIWYG then you are golden
