Hey all,

I'm getting my army ready for NOVA, and right now I'm trying to figure out how to handle my destroyer lords. Last edition, I ripped apart all my destroyers and dlords to make custom spyders (see photo 1).

Option 1 is since my NOVA list contains no spyders in it, I could simply use these guys as the destroyer lords. Call them spyder lords or whatever I like (again, photo 1)

Option 2 is to use pinning or something similarly minimally invasive to my spyders, and make it so basically lords are "riding" the spyders. I would do some extra conversion work like making some kind of harness etc. (photos 2 & 3)

Option 3 is to rip apart my spyders and lords and convert something that is pretty close to an actual destroyer lord model.

I'm open to any other suggestions, please let me know if you have any. The only idea I'm against is I would rather not buy new destroyer lords or kits in general since I have all the parts necessary (plus tons of great bits to use) and I have plenty of other things I have to buy to finish up my army. I suppose I'd like to ideally do something where I could at a later time still use the spyders as spyders if possible, but I most importantly want to do something that not only will be tournament legal, but not get me any rolling eyes across the table. Thanks!

I would hate to break apart those Spyders. Really nice conversions. I think I'd go with the rider (picture 3 looks promising) seeing as just using the spyder can still be rather confusing, other Spyders or not.

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

@Flamingwalnut - do you think it's silly to have them 'riding' though? I was thinking of using guitar wire to make reins around the head of the spyder.

Can't you just magnetise the riders?
then you have a unit that can count as spiders without riders. or you can add the riders and count them as destroyers/destroyerlords.
But you've got to check up with NOVA on these kind of conversions, I don't know if they will get rejected if they aren't WYSIWYG.

As long as you are converting the dudes onto them, and follow our modeling policy in terms of how to play them (aka you are seen as if you were that tall, but do not see as if you were that tall, etc. - no modeled advantages, all modeled disadvantages), you should be fine with those.

If you have any other questions, you can also just ask me! I'm happy to help answer, and as the organizer of the NOVA am able to answer most questions definitively.

Looks like a cool conversion,
- Mike B, NOVA
