Was a little nervous about chopping up my trygon but pleased with the progress. Any ideas on how to disguise the metal pole would be greatly appreciated!

Mayb You could try finding a clear plastic pole from somewhere, or mayb re-support the model at the lowest point in more places, otherwise, you could just heavily sculpt it to look like a spire, have you seen the film pitch black? The insects in that film burst out of these huge dusty tower things, like ant hives, might be quite easy to disguise the pole if its built up like that!
