Been painting a bit lately trying to nail down a theme for my Word Bearers. I can't say I am 100% on this theme but it is my best so far.
Let me know what you think. I love me some C&C.

I like it.
Red tone is perfect.
The use of a BT PW is also perfect, I always thought those and the Bearers had something in comon... Zealotery maybe?
Freehand on the pauldron's good, especially for a white - you can't cheat with Micron pens. :/
Only downside : I like my minis with more contrast. I'd highlight the red more.

Thank you Seb, I appreciate the comments.
It took me quite some time to find the right red for the armor but I am happy with that aspect.
Yeah I bought a BT weapon sprue just for my Word Bearers. I think it takes quite a bit of crazy to have a weapon chained to your arm.
Unfortunately my pictures are crap so a lot of the shading I did didn't really come through but I think even in real life it still needs a bit more contrast so I will definitely be working on the red highlights more.

Ga-reat work on that sword!
And the blood on the chainsword - yeah!
I've never tried blood before, I've heard it's not as easy as it sounds.
The horns and other bone look quite realistic, with stains through them like real horns.
Up close, the paint looks kind of thick and clumpy, not so clean like a lot of the really pro stuff turns out.
I guess I can't say anything, my models look like this too.

First off, fantastic looking base. Its amazing what some cork board (at least thats what it looks like) can do for a base and the overall presentation of your minis. Very natural looking scenic base....I love it. I cannot tell by the photos if you painted a very deep, dark red or if the lighting is making it look that way. Either way, word bearers should be muted and dark, so it looks good. Green would have been an easy way to compliment the red, but the blue really looks good against the red armor. the metallics also look aged and weathered. Very well done, all around the model has a naturally diabolic and dark feel, the omission of stark highlights really bring out the chaos in this marine....excellent!

Thanks!
Actually the blood literally took me 10 seconds. I kept it simple on this one but all I did was get some Tamiya clear red and just made streaks on the chainsword, simple as that.
I promise the paint isn't thick. That is the one thing I take pride in as thick paint bugs me. The problem is actually my photos. Still working on that.

Awesome chainsword arm. I was debating doing the same thing to represent the daemon weapon of Apostle Marduk from the Word Bearers book series.

You sure do know how to make a boy feel pretty.... wait what? In all seriousness thanks a ton Element you always have something nice to say. Yeah the base is cork nice and easy basing. Yes the red is a deeper red with some watered down blood red highlights. I didn't want him ending up as a chaotic blood angel. I am happy with the sword it is the first blended job that I was happy with. I figured if I went green my force would start looking like a Christmas army.

Haha I was actually thinking something similar. I took inspiration from Burias seeing as this guy is mid transformation into possession (As I honestly hate most of the possessed bits).

Just how did you get that, perfect, Word Bearer red? I love the inclusion of the possessed bits since I have always viewed Word Bearers, especially early on, as having more possessions than most other legions. Good stuff!

Thank you much!
It is pretty easy. I prime them black -> Cover most the model with thin layers of Mechrite red (air brushed) but I still left some black showing. I guess I used the zenithal method. -> I then highlighted that with blood red (also air brushed) again just highlighting where light would hit. -> I washed the whole model in Arroburg Crimson (New lines Baal Red) wash -> The final step would be to go over again and just highlight the extreme areas with really watered down Blood red so it is still pretty subtle and not too bright.
I agree they seem to be friends with possessed but that may just be from the Word Bearer books I have read.
