The Siege of Agriworld Verdus IV continues. The Venus Plague, Traitor Marine disciples of Nurgle and Slaanesh, continue to bombard the planet with conventional weapons from their battle cruisers in orbit. But, they have unleashed a far more sinister weapon on the planet - "The Blood Pox" - a highly virulent plague that causes massive internal hemorrhaging. Its victims typically die within hours of infection, with blood pouring from every orifice - eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and... elsewhere. The Space Marines of the Venus Plague find the method of death highly pleasing from an aesthetic and suffering standpoint. If not stopped, it is likely that the entire planet will succumb to the plague within a matter of weeks.

Only one woman stands in the way of their infernal plans. Sister Ashley of the Order of the Violet Rose is in possession of a single vial of experimental antidote received from a nearby research planet and is en route to Verdus IV's largest medicae facility where she can reproduce the antidote in mass quantities. In our last installment, she narrowly escaped a Chaos ambush and continued toward her destination.

Furious with the Venus Plague's failure, Demon Prince Coprophaggot Deluxe, Anointed of Nurgle and Slaanesh, has redoubled his efforts to find Sister Ashley and kill her. Showing no mercy to his servants who failed him, he offers them up as sacrifices to the Dark Gods in return for Demonic assistance.

On the run from the forces of Chaos, Sister Ashley rendezvous with a small but battle hardened detachment of the Planetary Defense Force in the decimated factory-city of Tartsus where she decides to lay low until a Valkyrie can arrive to fly her to the Medicae Facility.

Unfortunately for her, the divination powers of Chaos are strong, and the forces of evil have "smelled" her warp presence. The Chaos marines and their demonic allies march on the city prepared to search building to building to find her. Will she survive the night and be rescued in time?

THE SETUP

SPECIAL SCENARIO RULES

Hidden Deployment - The defenders start the game completely hidden, with their locations written down secretly on a piece of paper before the game. They are only revealed if they move, shoot, assault, or if the Attackers set foot in the terrain piece that they are occupying. Sister Ashley is hiding in one of the ruins.

Hidden numbers - the Attacker does not know how many points the Defender has.

Night Fight - the entire game is night fight.

Evacuation - The Valkyrie arrives on a 4+ turn 5, on a 3+ turn 6, and automatically turn 7

A Desperate Stand - The combined total of the Defender's Forces is roughly 1300 points vs. the Attacker's combined total of 1750.

THE OUTNUMBERED DEFENSE FORCES

Archibald, Primaris Psyker

The Brass - Company Command Squad with 4 plasmaguns

Verdus' Finest - Veteran Squad with 3 plasmaguns, autocannon

The Expendables - Veteran Squad with 3 meltaguns, lascannon

Genesis Squad - Veteran Squad with 3 plasmaguns, missile launcher

The Sureshots - 5 Ratling Snipers

The Assassin, Veteran of a Thousand Wars (Counts as Sly Marbo)

Lady Ashley and her Bodyguard (not pictured) - 2 Deathcult Assasins, A Crusader, and a Sister of Battle

AND THEIR UNTRUSTED ALLIES - THE FLESH TEARERS

Reclusiarch Tractus with Handflamer and
His squad of 5 Death Company Marines in a Razorback armed with Twin Heavy Flamers

5 Assault Marines and their Sanguinary Priest, lead by Reclusiarch Arjuna (not pictured)

AND THE GREAT ENEMY - THE FORCES OF CHAOS

Demon Prince Coprophaggot Deluxe, Annointed of Nurgle and Slaanesh

Great Unclean One Faecus the Black

6 Chaos Bikers with a variety of weaponry

7 Noise Marines in Rhino

10 Plague Marines in Rhino

10 Plaguebearers

10 Horrors of Tzeentch

Soulrape, Eternal Servant of Slaanesh and Nurgle, a Defiler

THE FIGHT

The Forces of Chaos advance into the city under cover of night with no idea where the desperate guerrilla defenders might be hiding. The bikers quickly make contact with a hidden veteran squad.

The bikers set fire to the Veteran Squad's hiding place and send a hail of bolter fire their way, killing eight of them and sending them fleeing for their lives.

The Command Squad reveals itself in the center bunker to open fire on the Demon Prince with heavy plasma fire, but only inflict one wound

More veterans reveal themselves on the right flank in an elevated position and completely destroy the Plague Marine Rhino. For the efforts, they are rewarded with the attention of summoned Plaguebearers

The Forces of Chaos press onward, determined to find Sister Ashley and murder her. The Pink Horrors of Tzeentch home in on the psychic mind of Archibald the Primaris Psyker (center) and materialize in front of him. They laugh maniacally as gleefully they overload his brain with psychic energy and blow his head off. He never stood a chance against the masters of the warp.

As Chaos presses the onslaught, Soulrape the Defiler and Coprophaggot the Demon Prince bombard the bunker that the Defense Force command squad was hiding in and utterly destroy it, crushing all inside.

The snipers reveal themselves in the ruins of the factory and open fire, putting a bullet through the head of the Chaos Biker leader with a focused round. The Death Company Razorback arrives onto the battlefield after receiving the distress call from Sister Ashley

Even the hardened Guard Veterans tremble in fear as the Great Unclean One and hounds of Khorne materialize in front of them. All weapons hot on the vile abomination, and they slough two wounds from its horrid rotten flesh as the Flesh Tearer Assault marines steel themselves for a charge.

Meanwhile, on the other flank, the Razorback disembarks its troops and cruises over towards the Chaos bikers, where it incinerates two of them in the holy flames of the Emperor! Sister Ashley and her retinue keep their heads down - they are hiding in that very ruined manufactorum! The forces of Chaos are getting too close for comfort.

STRIKE FROM THE SKIES, BROTHERS!!! The Flesh Tearers fearlessly charge the vile filth demon.

A bird's eye view of the battle as it stands (roughly bottom of turn 3 / top of 4 or so)

The Demon Prince charges the Death Company, and Reclusiarch Tractus issues a challenge to single combat. The Emperor protects!!!

Sister Ashley has been discovered by the forces of Chaos, and the Valkyrie is still far away!! Will she survive??? The Death Company throw themselves against the Demon Prince and fight with all their lives.

The Assassin, Veteran of a Thousand Wars (Sly Marbo) emerges from his hiding place in the muck and tosses his demo charge at the bikers, desperately trying to eliminate the threat to Sister Ashley, but he only kills two of them. One remains.

In single combat, Reclusiarch Arjuna jumps atop the head of the Great Unclean One and slams his Crozius through the skull and into the rotting brains of the Demon, slaying him instantly. The Demon melts into a vile froth of rancid warp filth and disappears.

Reclusiarch Tractus isn't as lucky, however, as Demon Prince Coprophaggot Deluxe decapitates him in one blow. The Death Company fight on as Sister Ashley and her retinue flee for safety.

Reclusiarch Arjuna and Sanguinary Priest Amasai rage against the evil, slaying Plague Marines and Hounds of Khorne left and right, but the Reclusiarch is finally felled by a cowardly blow from behind by the Defiler.

The Demon Prince finally slays the last of the Death Company, soars into the air, and vector strikes Sister Ashely's Retinue, decapitating Sister Virginia

The Noise Marines disembark from their vehicle, unleashing hell upon Sister Ashley and her retinue, rupturing innards and brains with their unnatural sonic weapons.

With only a handful of Guardsmen and Sanguinary Priest Amasai, still left alive, and her retinue destroyed, Sister Ashley drops to her knees and prays to the Emperor for Deliverance... but He doesn't hear her prayers (rolled a 1 for the Valk to arrive!!!)

The Chaos Marine laughs maniacally as he roars by on his bike and disembowels Sister Ashley with his power fist...

The Valkyrie finally arrives, only to find Imperial corpses littering the landscape...

With Sister Ashley dead and the vaccine back in the hands of the Venus Plague, is all hope lost? Are the billions of citizens of Verdus IV doomed to die a horrendous death for the capricious whims of the evil Space Marines?

Stay tuned!!

Fantastic battle report. Great scenery, beautifully-painted models and a well thought-out scenario. I know these types of batreps take time to make, so I just wanted to let you know that they're appreciated. Great job! Was this a three-person batrep with the third person acting as narrator/GM?

Thanks. Yes, this one was a ton of work. I really do appreciate you taking the time to let me know you liked it. It really makes it worth it.

This was actually just a two player game, but we are long-time friends. I was playing the imperial side and just kept myself honest about stuff.

Even with how badly the odds were stacked against me, I was surprised how close I came to evacuating Sister Ashley!!! Had that Valk come on in that turn, I might have been able to whisk her away to safety... really just a few more dice rolls in either direction, and it could have gone either way... alas, it was not the Imperials' day.

It's back to the drawing board for the Imperials. They won't give up without a fight!!! Stay tuned for Part III

Wow.....Simply wow.... Such fantastic work, both modeling and story telling. Do you own most of these armies? I am seeing a similar style and touch to them, which I guess is mostly awesomeness ha ha.

And thank you for the close ups as well as the whole dang thing! Good to see the bad guys win one for a change

Great report! Excellent scenario and a compelling story and narrative.

The armies are fantastic - I'm especially keen on those flesh tearers ( any chance of getting you to disclose your technique?)

I'll be staying tuned for the next installment.

Andy Chambers wrote:
To me the Chaos Space Marines needed to be characterised as a threat reaching back to the Imperium's past, a threat which had refused to lie down and become part of history. This is in part why the gods of Chaos are less pivotal in Codex Chaos; we felt that the motivations of Chaos Space Marines should remain their own, no matter how debased and vile. Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose.

Really good batrep. It was nice to see Chaos win for once- especially with a crushing defeat like that. The Imperials didn't have a chance, and it was suitably grimdark to see Sister Ashley's fate, considering the weight of her mission.

The action definitely peaked when the Reclussiarch fought the GUO. So epic!

All in all, really good report. It was narrerated well, and for the most very fluffy. The only thing I would have preferred is if the Chaos forces had been purely Nurgle-based- but ultimately that's not a big deal.

Good job. Can't wait to see the next chapter. A daring counter-attack to retrieve the vial, possibly? The Chaos forces should just destroy the vial right then and there haha

Great job writing and wonderfully painted armies make an amazing battle report! I had to say though that I was rooting for Chaos (since I play them). I love the Chaos models! Lots of fun with greenstuff and converting!

Wow! the modelling is fantastic, the scenario, the work put in - extremely cinematic, excellent report, keep it up!

Also, yes, I think a vagina with boobs on mechanical spider legs is pretty much the most disturbingly slaaneshi thing I've seen in a long time. I think your friend has read Ian Watson's Inquisition War...

Agree Captain Roderick, suitable but aweful.

Fantastic stuff! Great game, love you guys innovating with missions and pushing the game forward. Also great to see mature players not so over competitive that staying honest is too much of a challenge.

Well done guys and thanks for taking the time to write up and post so effectively.

Yeah, in this batrep I own the IG, the Sisters, and the Flesh Tearers. In the other CSM vs CSM batrep I have floating around on the front page right now, I own the red CSM army. Two different friends of mine own the other two CSM / Demon forces featured in the batreps. Both of them amazing and creative modellers.

Thanks! Sure, the Flesh Tearers, honestly, it's just a matter of spending time on them and using clean technique. The red is P3's Sanguine Base, GW's Scab Red for highlight, and then Blood Red for a fine highlight. The black is highlighted with P3's German Gray and GW's Codex Gray. The skin is P3's Cryx Bane Highlight and then I just mix white in for highlights.

Well, he got two wounds melta'd off of him by the IG, and then the Reclusiarch wore him down in CC over about 3 rounds of combat. That power maul at S6 now is nice, and it doesn't matter that it's AP4 since the GUO doesn't have an armor save.

Yeah, he's got a predator that has the corresponding male, um... parts, and it's just really hideous. He's a pretty out there guy, but he's an art director at a video game company, so is pretty creative.

Thanks! Yeah, we're really trying to tell stories with these games, so who wins or loses is really secondary to that.

Best batrep scene I've seen in months, brilliant stuff, "cinematic" genius. Are we allowed to use that word these days or is it naughty?
