Hey guys,
After lurking around on here for far too long I decided that I should participate in the forum for a change! instead of just reading post's. So anyway this is going to be the place that I post work in progress shots and finished pictures of everything I have been working on. The aim is to have one or two completely painted armies that I am happy with. Also with the help of you guys reading this improve my painting and modelling side of things.
I do have shiney model syndrome like alot of people I know in the hobby so expect me to jump between projects quite a lot... expect a chaos space marine army to be added to the list at some point judging by the leaked pictures!

Right then on to business! At the moment these are the things I have on the painting table.

Raven guard Now I have always wanted to have a well painted marine army and the RG have always been one of my favourites. I think Its the fluff mostly and the fact that corax was a bad ass! well when he wasnt being all emo. I got inspired by SCC's log over on bolter and chainsword and decided that the RG would be my marine force. The plan is to have very few if any mk7 marines and mostly make use of the fw kits, I will be using quite a few mk6 marine parts. My thinking is that its just not RG without them also the force can double as a post istvaan heresy army when fw release the hours heresy books.

Eldar The space elves have been my first 40k love for aslong as I can remember. I think I have around 3k painted from when they got released in 2006 everything eldar wise earlier than that is painted quite badly so i tend to just use those guys for bigger apocolypse games. With the rumoured eldar book next year, I plan on re visiting these guys with a new craftworld scheme as gw discontinued the paint I used to paint the old guys in. I have been using an airbrush to good effect for over a year now so I think this would be a good time to try something abit more adventurous. Im thinking the mymeara scheme from fw.

Imperial guard I think ive got about 1750 of these guys and id say that they are 75% all painted not the best scheme or painting but I'd like to get the finished.

Necrons These guys I have 2500 bought and assembled so far. the plan is to take these to the gw event the scaking of gaois secundus I have bought my ticket and I dont actually have a painted army at 2500 pts! scary!

Right down to the pictures! I thought i'd put up a few pictures of the most recent Raven guard.

This is the first squad I have finished, tactical sqd anfarno

here are some member close ups. Even though it doesn't actually look like it these models are highlighted. I wanted to go for a more black look like SCC's and not the grey black that you tend to see around.

And the sqd's transport Rhino

Any comments or criticism would be cool!
cheers

i like the look and feel of the scheme, very cool. i found some snow effect stuff at a hobbytown usa and applied it directly onto my models and it just added to the winter theme, you should try and find some, or use whatever you used on the base. it'll give more contrast to your models since all the heavy black kinda dulls the overall effect. hope this helps, keep up the great work!

I really like the thin, fine, dark highlights on the black armor. It's rare I see black armor that looks black and not grey! The white on the sergeant's helmet looks incredible though!

The white helmet looks fantastic, especially the eye-lids!

Cheers for the kind words!
@alllbator I was thinking about maybe adding some snow to the models them selves i did a few testors and couldn't quite get it to look right. It something i will keep in mind though.
@brother SRM the really dark look is what I was going for I think it makes them look more sinister some how.

Right time for a slight raven guard update, I have managed to finish a couple of marines although the pictures havent turned out quite as good as the last bunch. Ive also managed to start work on my scout unit. I tried my hand at winter camo on the scouts cloaks and im not 100% on them yet.

missile launcher

Sgt

tactical marine

and the scouts, these are WIP.

I've also managed to do a tester for my up coming necron force, I have borrowed a paint scheme from minijunkies blog with the idea that these guys are going to be quick, I think this one took about an hour start to finish. And I have just noticed that I need to clean up the little bit of flash on its foot/ankle.

Cheers

cheers guys!

@alllbator the stubble is pretty easy to be honest, Paint the skin like you would do normally. then make a glaze with codex grey I use vallejo glaze medium although the gw technical one is the same thing. id say you want it twice as thin as an average wash and then build up the layers over 3 or 4 coats, you want the skin tone to slightly show through. The camo I did by starting with adeptus grey making big random shapes, I then use codex grey and paint them along the adeptus grey shapes. after that I do exactly the same thing but I use vallejo model air white, It takes a few coats with this but because its already pre thinned for air brushes I find it doesnt clump like normal paints.

@dangledorf2.0 White is pretty easy I start with slightly thinned astronomicon grey it should take about 2 coats to get smooth. Then I use the trusty vallejo model air white and it takes 2 to 3 coats of paint to get smooth. for the sgts head I used the new gw layer paint I cant remember the name of it ceremite white I think, With that I water it down quite a bit and then I blended it into the model air white. For some reason the gw white looks a little bit more white and crisp.

hope that helps
