Hi All,
These are pics of my first painted Word Bearer! I have already posted these in the introduction forum as I am new to Dakka Dakka, but I thought posting them here is more appropriate!
Please C&C. I want to redo the horns... anyone have any tips to make them look better?
Cheers!

Loving the spine on the back. Also nice on the freehand symbol. I tried to freehand the word bearers logo and it looked like someone who has no skill with freehand tried to do a word bearers logo.
I can't help much with the horns as I am no good at them. but they don't look that bad to me. The two ways I have seen it is layering with washes or doing a layered effect with dark browns at the bottom going up to a lighter color at the top.

Nice painting. For the horns, would you mind saying what you started with?

For the Horns, I'd leave a very thin line of black (preferably your undercoat, if you use the GW spray paint it should be just about shiny enough) near the base of the horns. From there build layers of dark browns, Like start with a 1:1 mix of Scorched Brown and Chaos Black and just step it up to a 1:1 mix of Tallarn Flesh and Skull White. You should also feather your strokes so that the focal point for your light colors is the very tip of the horn (or in this case the skull) and so that the lighter colors seem to splay out from focal point. Tie them all together with a wash of Devlan Mud or Agrax Earthshade. Hope this made sense and I wish I had some pics to share.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right. |
