I've recently started painting up 1000 points of marines as a gift for my father. He's turning 52 in october, so I'm in a bit of a hurry to get these done, but I think I can get it done. I've decided to document my progress here, and any constructive criticism you guys can give me would be awesome. I want to make sure this is a gift he'll treasure. So here's my first model so far, the chapter master of The Patriarchs:

Supposed to represent him, this model comes complete with his initials on the boltgun as well as "Patris" (latin for father), graying hair, and his age on the banner. The power sword is supposed to have a lightning effect, something I have never before attempted. Hopefully it looks good. The purity seals have my and my sister's initials on them. Hopefully it looks good.

The rest of the army will consist of a Dreadnought named after my grandfather, a 5 man sniper scout squad with the sergeant named for my uncle, a 5 man (4 plasma cannon) devestator squad with a sergeant named after another uncle, a librarian named after (you guessed it: an uncle), a terminator squad named after an aunt, and a tactical squad with a sergeant named after another aunt. It may all be a bit campy/cheesy, but I think he'll see the humour in it.

Updates should be fairly rapid, at least until I head out to university for the year.

Second model is done. Nothing special about him, just Brother Octavius from the tactical squad. His combat squad colour is green, the other combat squad will have space wolf blue for certain details. Not a magical paintjob on him, but I think he looks pretty good for rank and file.

I've also decided that each model in the army will be named, but only squad leaders will be named after family.
